CPEC News and Discussions

It is best to change the name of the CPEC thread to "Unpaid Long term Debt"
There is 0% interest by foreigners or Pakistani into any investment in Gwadar

  • 30-40 Year old instability in Gawadar
  • 2021 Imran Khan Government Toppling based on Cipher
  • News of stealing of Land belonging to KPK residents in KPK Northern ares of Pakistan
  • Military operations
It's just not an ideal place to invest

It's a failed project between 2000-2026 , the bureaucracy and Army ate up the potential unfortunately

The toppling of Imran Khan's government sealed the fate of Gawadar initiative

Pakistan
  • Is not safe for Pakistani
  • Is not safe for Chinese Engineers
  • Balouchi families are searching for their lost family members, it is a mess
  • Investment or anything related to finances is not safe
  • If you some how make some money in Pakistan , Crooks are lined up , demanding bribes , tributes
    • Crook bureaucrats
    • Crook bankers
    • Crook federal workers

That is the "Hard State Truth" the fate has been sealed by Hard state believers

In past 2 years I think it is first time I am opening a thread about CPEC or Gwadar

Pakistan is just a army occupied land there is no future for individual people
There representatives pretend show they are doing it for Nation., but the truth is their focus is on personal gains

This much is evident since 2021

People have reported to me saving account holders in Banks are not releasing funding to allow them to withdraw their own money , because Crooks in power since 2021 can't get "Bheek" from anyone

CPEC is not failing because of China
  • It is failing because our Army and Crooks who toppled the government in 2021

Most people who get elected to go to training , or other administrative roles in CPEC are basically , sons and daughters of someone with in government or Military or retired person.

There is no benefit to average person in Pakistan in this arrangement

Pakistan just does not have the right people to make it successful , sincere apologies to our Chinese readers

As Imran Khan , our real official Prime Minister (Currently in illegal detention) stated without honesty a nation can't prosper

China I think did their part , but when it was time to build business centres, and help local population , the same old army goons and their families come forth and hog up all the roles in CPEC , the remaining roles get eaten by politicians

A honest man can succeed even with 1 billion

Here we had access to 62 Billion USD and our Army and Politicians failed miserably

It is what it is ... "CPEC is 100% failed initiative may be it will help china " but for Pakistani people I don't see how it will increase jobs or local benefit

Not China's fault

It is our Army , and crooks in charge since 2021 (Family mafia) we are going backwards into stone age under these entities since 2021

I have 0% complain from China this is 100% Pakistan's greedy higher uppers "GREEDY fks"

I don't view men in Uniform the same way as I did before 2021

Things have changed ...

May be there are "Some" folks with good intent but it is not enough
  • if we follow the money trail , the average Pakistani does not gets anything , since 1952
  • If we will fail as nation it will because of our own greedy people

They are at trial stage with large scale commercial unit in 2030.

A 1.5Billion dollar investment needs decades to be feasible.

Would love to see polymer plant based on that coal gasification though.

Yes!!! Finally Someone Who Understands Me

Please get a new agreement with Karachi (the worst city in Pakistan and get rid of PPP mafia party who controlled the city many years).

Let's turn this oldest city to Hong Kong or Beijing.

Key highlights of the project:

Production Capacity: Projected to produce 717,000 tons of urea annually.

Local Resource Utilization: Will consume roughly 2.1 million tons of indigenous coal per year, drastically reducing reliance on expensive imports..

Timeline: Commercial operations are slated to kick off by 2030-31...

This initiative is a massive step toward boosting domestic fertilizer availability, optimizing local resources, and easing the pressure on foreign exchange.

It all comes down to Punjab.... :)

Singapore, Dubai or Estonia or Hybrid model is the best model Pakistan, adopt it and run with it, but establishment want to take the country back to 90s politics. They have next 25 years plan to increase external debt to 500 billion or mass suicide in Pakistan before they think about bring any changes. Even Chinese are getting tired of explaining but Munir Sahab is busy running shadow government.

Once the issue resolves with Iran, China might take over Chabahar port and reduce dependency on Gwadar port.

Cities and regions need metrics, as well carrots and sticks if they perform or don’t. Pakistan should make it such that regions that reform, within their means, the most, should get additional resources (such as our diplomats directing foreign partners to network with these localities) from the federal government to keep going. Not necessarily monetary, but other ways to accelerate good work.

Pakistan needs institutions not political dynasties. Without institutions, democracy will remain a joke. Pakistan is in catch 22 situation, desperately need structural reforms but establishment is afraid of losing control so they shutdown anyone even talks about reforms.

Precisely. But need not fear as they have control, most importantly by being in charge of the entire economy. But the economic demands are growing faster than they can keep up with. Therefore they need civilians to be motivated to manage politics and attract investment, while they secure things and let companies generate taxes, so they can be paid directly from increased defense spending, not indirectly from running military owned companies.

One way to transition is to mandate the political dynasties can be in charge of their parties but not allowed to run as candidates. Let competent professional politicians who work their way up from the localities earn spots in parties as they show good performance o the basis of a public platform of policies and get re-elected if they carry out those promises, within the budgets given. A professional body would also be necessary to set long financial policy of the nation and let the political leadership know what they are allowed to change, so they don’t shift financial policy just to win an election; short term political gain for long term economic cost.

The dynasties can set the ideologies of their parties and perhaps serve as the president if their party wins the majority in parliament, but other than that, the parties need to become professional so that the public can separate personalities from platforms and policies. (This is why I would hope IK comes out of prison and if his party is allowed to govern, he only becomes the president, allowing more professional people to run the government. And if those professional people fail to perform, they can be removed and it won’t cause a political crisis for the country. In this way supporters of other parties would know the party bosses only hold limited influence, and know the villain beautocratic institutions will run things nearly just the same regardless of party; ergo long term stability for living and for investing and for governance and rule of law.)

Pakistan Launches Landmark Desert Horticulture Cooperation with China to Transform Arid Lands

By Wang Kai | China Economic Net
Jun 18, 2026

MULTAN, — Pakistan's first-ever Joint Laboratory for Desert Agriculture; and Science and Technology Backyard on Desert Horticulture were unveiled on Wednesday through an MOU to turn vast stretches of desert land of Pakistan into productive farmland.

Pakistan Launches Landmark Desert Horticulture Cooperation with China to Transform Arid Lands

Bringing together China's Tarim University in Xinjiang and Pakistan's Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture (MNSUA) in Multan, the partnership is expected to serve as a platform for technology transfer, scientific research, and farmer training focused on desert agriculture.

Dr. Abid Ali, chief scientist on Pakistani side, revealed the cooperation will focus on introducing a range of advanced technologies, including solar-powered greenhouse systems, precision agriculture, drone-based crop monitoring, and water-saving drip irrigation.

According to Dr. Ali, technologies developed by Tarim University could help address some of Pakistan's most pressing agricultural challenges, including water scarcity and low productivity in desert regions.

"The technologies have already proven successful in Xinjiang," Dr. Ali said. “For example, the low-cost, high-efficiency desert solar greenhouse technology addresses the longstanding challenge of low land utilization in traditional solar greenhouses, increasing land-use efficiency by up to 35%. Its simple modular assembly structure enables rapid construction while ensuring excellent daylighting and heat-retention performance with a construction cost of only about RMB 290–320 (PKR 11,000–12,500) per square meter.”

Fauji Fertilizer inks $1.12bn project under CPEC 2.0

  • Pakistan's first coal-to-fertilizer plant will transform local coal into 717,000 tons of urea annually
May 26, 2026

Pakistan’s leading fertilizer manufacturer Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited (FFC) has signed the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) agreement with a Chinese company, for what it termed as Pakistan’s first coal-to-fertilizer project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) 2.0 framework.

The company shared the development in a social media post on Saturday, stating that the agreement was signed with Hualu Engineering and Technology Co. Ltd in China on May 24, 2026.

“With an investment of $1.12 billion, the project is expected to produce 717,000 tons of urea annually while utilizing approximately 2.1 million tons of indigenous coal each year - strengthening fertilizer security, enabling value creation from local resources, and supporting Pakistan’s long-term industrial growth,” FFC said.
An infographic on the process.

An indication how much water is consumed in the process, and if instead of fresh river water, treated waste water could be used instead. We have to now think of water conservation, especially in large industrial processes.
