Don’t show your back at border, home advisor tells BGB

Then you are free to shoot them

Your minister has a problem with BSF shooting Illegal Bangladeshi Migrants and infiltrators

Hence he is asking BGB to act tough

But that is a Very Imprudent Thing to Say or Do

If Modi JI gives a Free Hand to
BSF and Army , it will lead to a lot of destruction

No, you are deliberately putting word in his mouth.

He is talking about BSF shooting inside BD.

There were instances when BSF shot at farmers inside BD territory. Not the smuggler or infiltrators trying to enter India. That is illegal and unacceptable. And that would be met with force.

I am pretty sure, BSF will be very careful from now on.

You are totally wrong.

BGB has always, for some 70 years or more, been part of the problem, NOT part of the solution. Have no illusions about them, simply because they are the Bangladeshi force on the borders.

There was a phase when there was open shooting at each other across the borders. That was during an acquiescent Congress government at the centre, that controlled the BSF, corrupt as it is. This is NOT a central government to play around with, and I cringed to read Brigadier Shakhawat Hossain's tub-thumping words.

Just to remind ourselves, the number of BSF (and other para-military) troopers is around 2.5 times that of the BGB. This will not be a military conflict, merely a source of misery for people living on the borders.
Another question why BD doesn't fence the border. Its always the India fence it. Even sometime BD stops fencing it.

Impossible. The topography does not permit more than a few patches to be fenced.
Fencing of the 4,097-km-long border began in 1986 but a 952-km-long stretch remains to be fenced.
Reason
1. Land Acquisition
2. Strong objection from locals to put a barrier. Many areas like Kaliaganj in WB the economy is dependent on illegal trades.

We aren't sitting on a pile of money...

Because of your internal politics.

Then stop violating our territory. You should build it in your own land...
Its normal for common civilians that whoever wants to protect themselves by putting a barrier so that miscreants doesn't violate their space.
Now think of BD and India border, and who pays for it.

The illegal trade boils down to shipment of cattle from India into Bangladesh and of pharmaceutical products, again, from India into Bangladesh. If the so-called fenced portions are inspected, their inadequacy will be readily apparent.

The BJP and the Sangh Parivar in general cannot have their cake and eat it, too. Either they have arranged for adequate fencing, and there is then no question of illegal movement of people, or this fencing is, as many have pointed out, just a demonstrative feature with no utility.

What I have understood that if India opens the border and Bangladeshis can travel wherever, whenever like old days then BD will consider India a friendly country.

Considering that most of the financial benefits come to the Indian side, including both traders and middlemen and the security guards, yes, it is clearly a propaganda measure, implemented to play off the central government's constant harping of the porous borders as a reason for lack of security.

There is little or no reason to fence the borders, not for India.

Look up for yourself the figures for numbers of Indians employed, legally, in Bangladesh.

There is no BJP or Sangh here. We need to close the border ASAP. Its good for both countries. BSF was the main culprit. India, BD border was a covoted posting with opportunities of earning more.
Infact, the cong govt did a better planning of border fencing than this BJP govt. But lately for some reason the border proliferation is almost stopped. I am not sure of the exact reason. This has affected the economy of cross border Illegal trade centres in a big way.

Its huge, I worked in BD for years. I know first hand. But without the technical support BD industries will have big problem. BD needs to import people talent from outside, be it India or some other country.
Moreover there are lots of Indian investments there, legally and illegally. For example one foot ware manufacturer from India has over 10 manufacture centre in BD and less than five in India.
