The Egyptian Defence Ministry has reportedly placed its first ever order for Chinese fourth generation fighters, with an unspecified number of J-10C fighters reported to have been ordered on August 19. This development comes as Cairo has continued to strengthen strategic and economic ties with Beijing, and follows its admission to the Chinese-led BRICS bloc earlier this year. The acquisition makes Egypt the second client for the J-10C after Pakistan, although unconfirmed reports indicate that neighbouring Sudan had reached an agreement on acquisitions before the outbreak of an insurgency in the country in April 2024 delayed talks for a purchase. The fighters are reportedly intended to replace Egypt’s ageing F-16 Fighting Falcons as these begin to be phased out of service. The acquisition has been speculated to be intended as an alternative to American proposals that Egypt acquire the F-16V upgrade package to modernise its F-16s, with the J-10C considered to have a superior combat capability to this enhanced F-16 model while coming at a similar cost to the package. Other than three squadrons of MiG 29M fighters ordered from Russia in 2015, all of Egypt’s fourth generation fighters are of Western origin, with the J-10C acquisition seen as a potential turning point for the country’s fleet in line with prevailing political trends.

Never know this site to be a reliable site for news information or confirmation of any procurement information. "If" there has been an order, it will have to be in the mainstream media more than it is currently.

The more reliable news so far is:
The two countries signed an agreement to buy advanced fighter jets, but did not disclose exactly what type ............

Speculation: Egypt will choose between the J10C and the FC31.
My assessment: Egypt will choose the FC31. it should be about the same price as the Rafale, possibly cheaper than the Rafale.

The J20's internal price is only about 60% of the Rafale's export price, and the FC31 is certainly less expensive than the J20. Considering the profitability of export sales, the actual export price of FC31 is slightly lower than that of Rafale.

The Americans are certainly triggered by the J-10.

China's J-10 Fighter Is a 'Clear and Present Danger'

I am not a fan of nationalinterest which is a right-wing US publication, but in this piece some valid points are made.

Egypt is pro Palestine. Makes no sense to go for French or American jets which are pro Israel.

I think Egypt is playing it smartly. A combination of Rafale and J-10C/J-31 is the way to go. Although Rafale is very expensive to acquire and maintain. Having such a mix puts the Americans on alert. Although, the question is, how far can Egypt take it to displease the Americans?

America will be triggered if Egypt truly goes ahead and buys any Chinese fighter. It will hurt the American diplomacy quite badly.

This is a smart decision from Egypt

U.S and France sells expensive fighters without selling the BVRs, that's a joke.

Buy the J10C, get the PL15Es and build up a credible military with Egyptian indigenous efforts supported by countries that won't sell you out for the Zionists
