Accusations against an Israeli channel of publishing rumors targeting the Egyptian army
March 5, 2025
Israeli media accused the "14" channel of publishing rumors targeting the Egyptian army, noting that the Israeli security services monitored an electronic campaign claiming that Egypt is strengthening its forces in the Sinai in preparation for a possible attack on Israel.
Although the campaign responsible for the campaign was not determined, the fingers of the accusation were directed to the "14" channel, owned by the right -wing Merkestelli family, to lead these allegations inside Israel. The channel refused to comment on the accusations indicating its endeavor to undermine the peace agreement between the two countries.
According to a report by the Haaretz newspaper, the Israeli army is conducting extensive investigations to determine the authorities responsible for publishing these messages, especially as their distribution requires large resources. The report also did not rule out the possibility of Israeli parties trying to weaken Egypt's role as a mediator in regional issues, especially related to the Gaza Strip.
Other reports indicated that the campaign was not limited to channel "14", but also adopted by the second most viewed channel in Israel, where it focused on accusing Egypt of violating the peace agreement. The analysis of the broadcast of "14" channel revealed the escalation of the pace of these allegations since the beginning of 2025, as the channel accused the Israeli army of not taking a firm position against what it described as "the Egyptian threat."
In its programs, the channel provided analyzes claiming that the movements of the Egyptian army in the Sinai pose a direct threat to Israel. For example, on February 18, 2025, one of the programs asked: "Is the Egyptian army strengthening its forces foretelling an imminent war?" The next day, the presenter of the program, Tal Meir, stated that "Israel is not ready to confront Egypt," stressing that the Egyptian army represents a different strategic threat from the Palestinian factions.
