Egypt reveals one of its heavy defense cards: the S-300 system appears publicly for the first time

In an unprecedented move, the Egyptian Air Force unveiled the Russian S-300VM (Antey 2500) air defense system during a large military parade, in an event that military sources considered a strategic step with deep implications. The sources confirmed that Cairo has possessed this system for years, but the decision to show it now reflects a shift in the rules of strategic presentation, and a clear message that deterrence capabilities are no longer hidden.

The S-300VM system is considered one of the most advanced systems in the Russian arsenal, as it has a high ability to monitor and intercept complex air threats, including stealth fighters and ballistic missiles, at long distances and altitudes. The S-300 radars cover hundreds of kilometers and cooperate harmoniously with launch pads designed to deal with complex electronic environments, making them the cornerstone of Egypt's air defense network.

But the timing of the unveiling of this system is not normal. Israeli media reports recently monitored unprecedented military movements near the Egyptian border, amid escalating tensions on more than one regional front. With defense cooperation between Cairo and Moscow growing in recent years, the move to show the system appears to be a message to the inside to enhance confidence in readiness, and to the outside to warn those thinking of approaching Cairo.

In this context, military expert Mahmoud Mohieddin believes that the offer carries a clear political and strategic dimension: "This is a message to the interior that the political and military leadership has taken proactive decisions to protect Egyptian airspace, including confronting potential threats that may arise from armed groups or regional conflicts".

The expert added, "The system entered active service years ago, and its unveiling today is nothing but a strategic announcement, after careful study of the timing and messages that are intended to be delivered."

He stressed that "Egypt's defense strategy is based on integrating Eastern and Western capabilities, and benefiting from scientific and technical expertise, which enhances combat readiness and ensures the ability to confront threats efficiently."

Regarding the possibility of Egypt acquiring the S-400 system, the expert explained that "all options are open within an integrated air defense strategy, but the decision requires careful study, while maintaining diversity in defense capabilities."

He concluded by saying, "Egypt is an ancient country, and possessing such defense systems is not a luxury, but rather a necessity to enhance national security and maintain regional stability, which makes this step have a strategic dimension and a strong message to all parties".

These Spanish made frigates? Do they compete with the likes of the Italian bherghamini? I’ve only done research on those and the French gowind classes extensively since the EN chose those along with the meko a200

In brief yes..mostly if they come with the US AEGIS system..they are very modern all purpose type of frigates.. air-defense, ASW, Anti ship and more..

Also Spain can give more ToT than France, Germany and Italy.. it is a good deal if it comes through..

I’m really hoping we don’t abandon the berghaminis from purchasing them because they’re some of the best as well and since we need a large modern navel force it’s better to have more of those with the Spanish options as well. I searched the f111 model and it really looks beastly…like a separate Mediterranean twin of their Italian counterparts. Only concern would be the delivery of the aegis system since that’ll be a huge political hurdle. But then again, Spain has been working with Egypt to stabilize the Middle East, and they’ve been open to making tons of military deals with us in the past. Not to mention both nations see eye to eye on certain political topics, hence the kings visit to Cairo. Plus Egypt is approved for the nasams deal as well so the sky is the limit.

Arabs can not fight Israel with American Weapons .. in a war , American AEGIS wont work against Israel

btw F-110 Frigate is with 16 cell MK-41 VLS for 64 x ESSM with range of 50 km
or only 16 ASTER-15/30 SAMs .... nothing else

8 x NSM anti-ship Missiles
6 x MK-54 Torpedos

F-100 Frigate has 48 cell MK-41 VLS but F-110 has only 16 cell VLS
The cost is $1 billion per unit ...... weak fire power for $1 billion
