A strategy to localize the railway industry in Egypt
Within the framework of Egypt's directions for renaissance in the field of transport and communication, and the localization of important industries in several fields, the Ministry of Transport announced a strategy to localize the railway industry in Egypt, through coordination with international companies to invest in this field inside Egypt.
Egypt works to provide means of railway transportation at home, provide hard currency, and transfer manufacturing expertise and technology to Egyptian workers in the railway industry and its derivatives.
It was announced that the Ministry of Transport is coordinating with (8) international companies to establish factories specialized in the fields of railways, in addition to the presence of the Egyptian SEMAF factory within the Arab Organization for Industrialization.
Details of the strategy to localize the railway industry in Egypt include the following:
Cooperation with the French company Alstom to establish an industrial complex in Burj Al Arab on an area of 66 acres, in order to produce electrical systems and railway components (signals - lubricants - electrical control panels and circuits - electrical braids).
In addition to establishing an Egyptian factory to produce all types of mobile units (metro, LRT tram, monorail, and high-speed train).
Work is also underway to establish an integrated industrial complex and a logistics area in Burj Al Arab.
Joint manufacturing with the Spanish company Talgo to manufacture passenger cars for railway trains on an area of 25 acres in the Kom Abu Rady area in Beni Suef Governorate in Upper Egypt.
Working with the Spanish company Coolway to establish a factory to produce internal components for trains and mass transportation.
Cooperation with Linza Egypt Company to establish a new company under the name (Egyptian Company for Engineering Industries and Development) to establish a factory for the production of railway spare parts in the industrial zone in Beni Suef.
Coordination with the South Korean company Hyundai Rotem and the Egyptian Railway Manufacturing Company “NERC” to establish a factory to produce metro trains, and the factory is being established in the eastern Port Said area.
Partnership with the Austrian company Fust Alpine to establish a factory for the production of railway switches and management, operation and development of the Abbasiya workshops for the production of railway branches in Egypt.
Agreement with the Suez Steel Company to manufacture bars and heavy sections, to establish a factory to manufacture bars and sections with a production capacity of 800 thousand tons annually.
The transportation sector in Egypt is considered one of the most developed and growing sectors in the last ten years.

French Alstom establishes a city for the manufacture of electric trains in Alexandria

The new industrial city will be built with investments of 300 million euros and is considered the first of its kind for Alstom in Africa. It will be built on an area of 168 thousand square meters and includes two factories, the first for manufacturing electric trains of all kinds (metro, monorail, express trains, and trams), and the second factory for producing operating systems, electrical circuits, and signals to meet the needs of Egypt and the region. Electric trains and their operating systems with the aim of increasing the local component of Alstom trains manufactured in Egypt.
