Is this really an environmental issue? Or is it a political slogan? Europeans should check out which high-ranking official is calling for environmental protection, and then see if their homes and offices are using air conditioning for cooling.

I doubt this is a big deal. Expensive electricity is usually the biggest reason countries, including in Europe, stay away from A/C.

Expensive gasoline, expensive natural gas, expensive electricity..what a continent!

It's the principle more than the cost. Although this summer i've found that you can have something called R290 units which are DIY'able.

R290 (Propane)…geez one nightmare being used to solve another nightmare. At least it’s only a few ounces.
