FIFA World Cup 2026

Sometimes the wannabes are the worst
It is not very clever to generalize a region home to 700 million people. Latino is a blanket description anyway. You have 25 million Black-Brazilians alone who are Latinos as well. You have approximately 25-30 million Latinos of Arab origin. Most Latinos, as I wrote, are Mestizos, meaning a mixture of native tribes (originally from Siberia hence the Asian look), Southern Europeans (and by default Arab ancestry as well due to mostly Spaniard and Portuguese European ancestry) and Africans. Later came significant Arab migrations and others as well.

Take a look at this video of Islam and Muslims in Argentina which is the most "European" Latin American country.

Even the adhan is tolerated and allowed. Many European countries home to many large Muslim populations do not allow it to this day.

I travelled across a few Latin American countries and never experienced racism even 1 single time. Blended in fine. I was met (we) only with curiosity and hospitality by large.

I don't know of any Arab-Latin American (in places like the US) hostility either. Seem to get along very well.

Paraguay may have just given away how to play the French team if you're a team the size of US, Mexico and other non-tall and physical teams.... defense defense defense until you see your shot or send it too penalty kicks. It almost worked if it wasn't for the obvious foul.
They were very lucky though. France should have scored far earlier and Paraguay should have had at least 1 or 2 sending offs.

Solely defending in a low block is not a very clever tactic against a team with so much offensive firepower as the French one that can kill you (score a goal) any given moment through individual brilliance.

Buenos Aires, had I not known I was there, looked just like any other western European city I've been in. Lots of blue-eyed blonde haired people speaking Spanish, that's all.

France survive Paraguay's 'disgraceful' and 'embarrassing' dark arts

'Disgusting' Paraguay went 'way too far' against France

5 July 2026,

"Paraguay's players were an absolute disgrace," former England goalkeeper Joe Hart told BBC One. "If they were on my team, I'd be dragging them off the pitch."

After dismantling all before them at this World Cup, France had to find a new way to win to keep alive their dream of regaining the trophy they last lifted in 2018. Their 1-0 victory over Paraguay was hard earned.

Paraguay had won over neutrals by causing a major shock in the last 32, knocking out Germany on penalties.

But, in a bad-tempered match in the punishing Philadelphia heat, they showed their ugly side.

Andres Cubas escaped a booking after clattering into Adrien Rabiot. Juan Jose Caceres kicked out at Kylian Mbappe, and that went unpunished too.

Astonishingly, while Les Bleus players Manu Kone, Bradley Barcola and Michael Olise were all cautioned, not one Paraguay player was booked. Not even when Gabriel Avalos dropped his elbow into the stomach of Dayot Upamecano when Paraguay were chasing the game.

"It was embarrassing to see," former England defender Micah Richards told BBC One.

"Paraguay are better than that. Defensively they were so good and they didn't need to get into these antics."

France's victory secured a quarter-final date with Morocco at Boston Stadium on Thursday (21:00 BST kick-off).

England fighting history as well as Mexican nation in Azteca cauldron

Mexico fans celebrate exuberantly

England are aiming to dash the hopes of an expectant host nation when they face Mexico in the World Cup last 16 at the Azteca

England will not just be fighting against the fierce passion of an entire nation when they face Mexico in the iconic Azteca Stadium for a place in the World Cup quarter-finals - they will be battling the weight of history.

The atmosphere in Mexico City was already red hot more than 24 hours before the last-16 meeting, with giant screens erected along the length of Paseo de la Reforma and car horns blaring on the historic avenue.

Only one subject is on the lips of Mexicans, and that is what will unfold in the Azteca cauldron on Sunday night (Monday 01:00 BST) when England try to halt the Mexico momentum that has left the country at fever pitch.

The game that will bring Mexico to a standstill cannot come quickly enough. Merchandise and souvenir sellers lined the streets at the Azteca on Saturday. Thunder and lightning rattled around the stadium.

It all adds to the scale of England's mammoth task against a Mexico side who have not conceded a goal in the World Cup and have lost only two competitive games out of 88 played at their spiritual home.

England arrived in Mexico on Friday evening and have had little time to adjust to what will confront them at the Azteca, which stands 7,220ft above sea level. They will face alien conditions at altitude after playing two games in the temperature-controlled luxury of Dallas and Atlanta, then in the rain of Boston and New Jersey.

If this was not enough, England are entering this hostile sporting territory knowing Mexico, and the Azteca in particular, has not been their happy place.

Argentine fans must be related to Knicks or Bulls fans then.

For a newcomer, Cape Verde played hard and never gave up. They earned their spot and the respect that comes with it.

This sounds more like the media and fan base whining because France wasn't all that impressive IMO.
