BEIJING, Aug. 12 (China Economic Net) – "The Middle East has become an important overseas market for Chinese medical device companies, especially in the fields of medical imaging and gene sequencing. At present, our products have successfully entered many top hospitals in the Middle East and covered many countries such as Algeria and Egypt," a Neusoft Medical staff told China Economic Net reporter at 2024 Beijing Forum for Global Health (China-Hospeq 2024), which was held in Beijing from August 9 to 11.

The statistic from Chinese customs showed that in the first quarter of 2024, China’s exports of medical devices to the Middle East increased significantly, among which exports to the UAE increased by 23.41% year-on-year, exports to Turkey increased by 9.68%, and exports to Saudi Arabia increased by 8.34%.

Speaking of the international competitiveness of domestic medical devices, Wu Shaojie, CEO of Neusoft Medical, pointed out that the share of domestic medical equipment in the international market is gradually increasing. “Domestic medical products and solutions have provided services to more than 110 countries and regions, but obviously we need to make much more efforts than that.”

Mozambique, located in the southeast corner of Africa, is one of the least developed countries in the world as announced by the United Nations. The country has a population of 30 million but only has one MRI machine in the capital hospital for a long time. As the capital Maputo is almost at the southernmost tip of the country, people in the northern provinces have to cross almost the entire country to receive medical imaging examinations.

“In 2022, our digital MRI device has entered northern Mozambique. With the help of it, medical staff could clearly capture the continuous dynamic changes of tissue signals and lock the lesions in real time,” introduced a staff member of United Imaging Healthcare.

According to Nature, China’s medical device market revenue has doubled since 2015, with an average annual growth rate of about 20%. This growth rate is significantly higher than the expansion rate of GDP, showing the strong development momentum of the medical device industry. Although the U.S. and European multinational magnates such as Siemens, GE Healthcare and Medtronic continue to dominate global market, the market share of Chinese local brands in the high-end equipment field has risen from 20% 10 years ago to 30%.

More than that, many international companies have further expanded their markets through localized cooperation by establishing manufacturing plants in China or building joint ventures with Chinese companies. The reporter learned at the China-Hospeq 2024 site that the ultra-high-end Revolution CT scanner manufactured by GE Healthcare’s factory in Beijing is highly favored in the global market for its high-efficiency performance and advanced technology. By now, 70% of the CT equipment sold worldwide comes from GE’s factory in Beijing.

Al- Haefeli, a senior expert in medical product certification at the UAE Ministry of Health, noted: “We learned that China’s domestically produced high-end medical equipment is not only technologically advanced, but also highly economical and accessible. We hope to introduce these advanced equipment and technologies through collaboration to provide better medical services for patients.”

I recently noticed one strange thing about China.

China is racing with West in every field you name it. You can see many Chinese companies in every field top 10 but in Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Field we don't see any Chinese company.

I don't know the reason but in top 10 there is no Chinese company.

China started to catch up relatively late in this sector, and taking on well established industry leaders is by no means easy, Give China one more decade, China may be able to dominate in this industry too, China is picking up pace in recent years.

US and Europe have many famous brands but they actually depend on China for common drugs and ingredients to make them.

Yes I am sure that would happen in future and China will catch-up, but i find only this industry among big industries where Chinese are not visible which sounds strange so i mentioned. In every field companies usually first becomes big in their domestic market and then go global so chances are that current big Chinese companies would be the one we will see in future. Can you share some information (in English) about current leading Chinese companies and their future prospects. If possible.

The healthcare industry is a very specialized and closed industry. I am not a practitioner in this industry and I cannot analyze it from a professional point of view, I can only analyze it from the point of view of my personal feelings. I often go to the hospital because my father is sick.

From the information publicized by the Chinese media, we know that China's medical instruments have indeed made a lot of breakthroughs. Some very advanced medical equipment has been independently manufactured by Chinese companies.

The vast majority of Chinese hospitals still use medical equipment from Western countries extensively. Only in some areas where Western countries are unable to provide products, Chinese equipment is used extensively. For example: intelligent drug sorting systems, intelligent hospital management systems, etc. From the perspective of user experience(This refers to user perception, not medical technology), Chinese hospitals are much more advanced than those in developed countries, and the gap is very large. However, the vast majority of hospitals' medical testing systems use medical equipment provided by Western companies.

Surprisingly, a lot of testing equipment in West China Hospital is medical equipment from Chinese companies. ------West China Hospital is ranked No. 2 in China's hospital system. it is ranked No. 1 in some of its disciplines.

In China, the vast majority of hospitals are state-run organizations. They have a very close relationship of interest with medical equipment suppliers(you can understand some kind of collective corrupt behavior), and changing medical equipment suppliers is a very troublesome thing. Although Chinese medical equipment suppliers are able to manufacture and supply better medical equipment, it is very difficult for them to break the link between Western medical equipment suppliers and Chinese hospitals. If these medical devices are not widely used in China, it will be difficult for these Chinese medical device suppliers to get better.
This will require government intervention and a deep reform of the healthcare system. But deep reform of the healthcare system will have a major impact on Chinese society as a whole, and the government will have to proceed very carefully to avoid creating even bigger problems.
Some areas of China have already begun such reforms, and we need some time. When these reforms are complete, these Chinese medical device manufacturers will explode.

Medical Devices and Equipment is one thing and China do progressed in that field but I was mainly referring Pharmaceutical Sector. I am from this sector in Pakistan and i do know Chinese has big pharmaceutical manufacturing companies especially when you talk about raw materials of Pharmaceutical products but when we talk about companies and finished brands we don't see many Chinese Companies or their brands. Pakistan is a market where many International companies are working directly or through franchise and I see an opportunity here as tapping the potential of future industry leaders when it is small and in beginning of their journey.

I know something about pharmaceuticals. My son's college major was drug manufacturing.

Finished drugs are not the main export of China's drug manufacturing industry, so you rarely see Chinese branded finished drugs.

One very important factor here is drug standards.

Two types of medical technology are widely used in China. That is, modern medicine based on Western medicine and traditional medicine based on Chinese medicine. Many hospitals and drug manufacturers in China most of the time combine these two medical technologies to provide medical services to their patients. Chinese medicine is very widely used in China and it has many amazing effects.

Many of the academic theories and treatments of Chinese medicine cannot be accurately explained using modern medicine. If you delve into Chinese medicine, you will find many amazing phenomena and some very special raw materials. These raw materials are difficult even for Chinese people to accept. They cannot possibly pass the standards of modern medicine. But they do cure you. It involves many raw materials in the use of drugs that modern medicine considers to be medically contraindicated. The International Standards of Medicines are standards based on modern Western medicine. These standards make it impossible to export many of the drugs that are widely used in China.

China can only export basic raw materials and small quantities of finished drugs that meet international drug standards.

This should be the answer you are looking for.

To find the Unified Social Credit Code (USCC) of China’s top medical device companies, follow these steps to ensure you obtain accurate company information. First, visit the China Company Search platform provided by GWBMA. This tool is specifically designed for querying Chinese company information and can help you accurately find the company name and USCC. When conducting a search, the most crucial point is to use the company’s Chinese name. According to Chinese company law, a company’s official name must be in Chinese, not English. Although a company may choose an English name, it has no legal effect.

Therefore, using the Chinese name is the only way to ensure you obtain accurate information. Once you enter the company’s Chinese name, the tool will display the matching company information, including the USCC. The USCC is a unique identifier for Chinese companies, similar to a company’s “ID card,” and is unique nationwide. With the USCC, you can accurately confirm the company’s identity and ensure the information you have is correct. After finding the Chinese medical device company you want to search for, you can also choose to use the MANUAL COMPANY VERIFICATION REPORT or the INSTANT AUTOMATED COMPANY REPORT to obtain detailed information about the company. These reports provide more in-depth details, such as the company’s history, financial status, shareholder information, and other important business information, helping you comprehensively understand the target company. In this way, you can obtain not only the legal identity information of the target company in China but also gain deeper insights into the company’s operations, ensuring that your business decisions are more reliable and secure.

In conclusion, as global medical demand continues to grow and technology advances rapidly, China’s medical device companies are experiencing an unprecedented golden era. These companies not only dominate the domestic market but are also actively expanding their influence globally. By continuously innovating, leveraging AI technology, and promoting smart and precision medical applications, these companies are driving the global medical industry toward a smarter and more efficient future. In the coming AI era, these companies will continue to play key roles in the global medical device market, contributing even more to the advancement of human health.

Well to be honest it's something I already knew. I was actually trying to identify the reasons why no Chinese pharmaceutical company has yet made it into the top 10 global rankings. Additionally, I wanted to explore potential business opportunities arising from this situation. Which Chinese pharmaceutical company has the potential to achieve global prominence and become one of the top 10 in the future so engage them now and bring their business to Pakistan. 😇

There are many very effective daily medicines in Chinese people's daily life, but they are hard to be exported.
I have seen some Chinese people on Douyin bringing these daily medicines to Pakistan. When they gave them to the locals to use, the locals face showed a very amazing expression.
If you want to bring these medicines in large quantities to Pakistan for sale, I guess you can only go through smuggling channels ...........
