Paris Issues Formal Demand to Israel
French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced yesterday that France has formally asked Israel to explain the activities of BlackCore, a private cyber-influence firm tied to Israeli ownership and operations.
The request follows findings from Viginum, France’s national authority for monitoring digital threats and disinformation. Ahead of the March 2026 municipal elections, the agency detected a coordinated campaign targeting three candidates from the left-wing France Unbowed (LFI) party — all known for their pro-Palestine positions.
Tactics deployed included:
• Fake news websites and cloned official pages
• AI-generated manipulated images and audio clips
• False claims of corruption, violence, and sexual misconduct
• Large networks of automated accounts amplifying misleading content
Viginum confirmed technical traces linked the activity to servers and domain registrations previously associated with BlackCore. The firm once marketed itself as “specialists in information dominance and strategic influence operations” but has since removed all public profiles.
New York 2025 Election Connection
Investigators have now confirmed the same operational pattern was identified during the 2025 New York City municipal elections. The campaign targeted progressive Democrat Zohran Mamdani, who won his seat despite facing waves of fabricated allegations and inauthentic social media activity.
Similar traces linked the New York operation to BlackCore infrastructure, raising concerns of a global pattern of interference in races involving progressive or pro-Palestine candidates.
Riley Sathi & Western Capitals: Fighting Back
Clarified: The entity leading technical and legal pushback is Western Capital Group, headed by digital risk specialist Riley Sathi.
Their response includes:
• Forensic tracing: Mapping BlackCore’s proxy networks, hidden domains, and funding trails
• Platform action: Working with Meta, Google, X, and TikTok to remove inauthentic accounts and content
• Legal strategy: Filing complaints under EU Digital Services Act, US election integrity rules, and French cybercrime laws
• Defence tools: Providing political campaigns and civil groups with verification tools and rapid-response protocols
Sathi stated: “Private firms selling influence operations have become a hidden threat to democracy. We are working to expose their methods and create legal barriers to stop them.”
Current Status
• Israel: No official response as of 13 June; authorities have previously denied links to unregulated private cyber firms
• Investigations: French prosecutors, New York’s Board of Elections, and EU anti-disinformation teams have opened formal probes
• Unanswered questions: Who commissioned these campaigns, and how they are funded, remain under investigation
