The United States was said to have agreed to an Israeli request to restrict the capability and use of advanced air-to-air missiles to Jordan and ban their sale to the rest of the Arab world.


The London-based A-Sharq Al Awsat reported that Israel persuaded the Bush administration to impose a set of restrictions on the sale of the AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile to Jordan. Earlier, the administration had agreed in principle to a Jordanian request for the AMRAAM for the kingdom’s F-16 fleet.

The newspaper asserted that Israel agreed to an arrangement in which the AMRAAM would be sold to Jordan. But the agreement included a U.S. commitment to ban the export of the air-to-air missile to other Arab states.

Earlier this year, the administration relayed an informal request to Congress to sell the AMRAAM to Egypt. Several senior House and Senate members expressed their opposition to the proposed sale.

For decades, the US has refused to sell Egypt AIM-120 BVRAAMs, forcing it to rely on inferior missiles. The US and Israel also pressured France not to sell its Meteor BVRAAMs. That was one reason Cairo opted for Russian fighters.

Just think my friend.. there was no selling of sovereignty here.. that money is part of the peace deal.. Egypt buys US weapons with it.. it is like getting 1000 Abrams tanks and their ToT too for free.. even those 220 F-16s are from that money.. and much, much, much more..literally for free.. So it is not a big deal that the US refuses to sell some weapons to Egypt, like the F-15, the F-35 or the Aim-120.. Egypt has always a way around that.. so why loose the gold eggs from your big chick???

I am sure Egypt gets more than the mere $1.4 billion directly or indirectly: A lot of countries' economies are at risk by being simply pushed out of the America-led global financial system, sanctions, and diverting trade/commerce, tourism-ban etc etc.

United States has enormous military, media and financial means at its disposal which, when combined with its partners in rich countries, are potent weapons. Often, the financial tools are enough to cripple inefficient, corrupt economies like those of Pakistan and Egypt. That's a reality every ruler in such countries is aware of lest they really want huge unemployment and strife within their respective countries--and why would those countries do that for Palestinians when the rich GCC Arab countries won't stick their own necks out??

Both Rafale deals of Egypt were signed including the Meteor.. so unless it is officially announced by France or Egypt that the Meteor is not included.. you can be sure it is coming.. if not already with existing Rafales.. Egypt won't show it ..because there is no need for that..Everything will be confirmed with the new Rafale deliveries starting this year..
