In 2035, when the PLAAF already operates two Air brigades of the J-36 and J-XDS each, has about 1000 J-20 and 600 J-35, some will still portray the Tejas 2 - then having maybe need its flight testing - as an emerald of aeronautical engineering and the epitome of a 4.75 generation fighter.

Let's just say the Indian, or rather, the Bharati government's stern and unwavering support for the Tejas Mk.2 project, or domestic military aviation as a whole, for that matter, is profoundly constructive toward regional stability and maintaining the balance of power.

My deepest, heartfelt respect and goodwill toward the talented, efficient, and punctual people of DRDO and HAL; may your efforts be ever fruitful.

The subcontinent achieved independence from the British exactly 8 decades ago, and India is the only country that after all those years ended up not as a basket case as rest of south asia did, depending entirely on bailouts, aid, remittances and export quotas just to survive.

This 2nd hand kanging on behalf of Japan or China as a nation becomes necessary when your own is a meme.

On a more technical note, do we have an initial procurement figure for the Tejas Mk2? Which units are slated to receive them, and which part of the current IAF inventory would they replace?

And as someone who dabbles in aerodynamics, Tejas mk2 is fairly unique in that it has an extremely close-coupled, even partially coplanar, canard. The only other project that had a similar layout is the IAI Lavi, which proved that said design exaggerates canard challenges like vortex breakdown at larger AoAs, asymmetric shedding during rolls, canard downwash creating induced AoA loss, transonic flutter, etc. Do we have any academic resources that hint at how DRDO and HAL tackled these issues, and why did they decide to stick with this restrictive fuselage length?
