HAL LCA Tejas: Updates, News & Discussions

So did the Tejas MK1A fly today?
Astra Mk1 trial was unsuccessful last time, IAF won't take it unless it gets certified even if the planes are ready.
I thought everything was set, including Astra. Indian members here insisted upon it.

Mk1A did fly today, Astra integration is having some software issues that need to be rectified. Last test was unsuccessful.

Yup, we were told deliveries definately happening, only issue was engine, and guess what?

HAL comes up with another issue again.

As I said, this project is dead!!!!

First, I'll keep my word and extend my honest congratulations to Indian members. (I'll be disappointed if not respectfully acknowledged :) )

Second, are there more videos? Because these are very underwhelming. Usually the rolled out [finished] aircraft tend to perform maneuvers/turns during their maiden flight rather than just be escorted by other type of aircraft (in this case Su-30) and fly straight. Second video is only focused on Rajnath Sing and ending with a glimpse of Su-30.
Integration issues with the AESA radar apparently.
onlinpunit See, this is why one or two aircraft are heldback as prototypes or testbed.

This is why one shouldn't make a pulao out of imported avionics and systems that creates issues with other equipment. Earlier it was said "uttam" isn't ready but HAL had already contracted for the license made (by HAL itself) EL/M-2032 long ago. Reminds me of them choosing their own PTAE-7 turbojet engine for CATS Warrior instead of much better STFE Manik turbofan made by BrahMos Aerospace. They will soil their pants if they ever try to integrate Meteor with this when Astra Mk1 is facing issues.

Videos = thats more like it. Congratulations, once again.

Your Comment = HAL is not much different from DRDO. More hubris, less substance.

If there is one organization in India worthy of envy its ISRO. HAL, DRDO, etc., should learn from their organizational management and skills.

?? DRDO is anything but hubris. They've built more or less everything indigenous we use, despite the pathetic levels of budget they receive. ISRO is infact more hubris than substance (launch number aim vs actual, RLV still under tests only, ADMIRE yet to be tested and so on).

You do realise that they are now making any excuse to delay, that the project is now on course by HAL to be shelved.. IAF have given up on this plane too I think

Well, we have our opinion. I have followed DRDO/DRDL through missile development lens. There are some flabbergasting things about DRDO/DRDL in that domain.

tejas 3rd manufacturing line for MK1A, should be a severe cause of concern, for Pak.

they have the money, quantity can overcome quality

it is only a matter of time, before French, hands them, engine of 90s tech with sufficient power to run a radar which would fire Meteor

if deployed in high number with their radar turned off, no matter how dumb, Tejas look, it can prove to be lethal

but it has to be deployed in large number

60 Tejas and 10 Rafales against 10 J10 and 3 J35 and 15 JF 17
PAF wont win that scenario easily!
in other words, PAF wont be able to wage the next war!

Yasser for Indian enemies sake I hope not
Because of this is the. Case
Then in stead of facing a semi ready Indian fighter like Tejas you will face both Rafale and Su57 in hundreds

And beyond that either FCAS or Tempest post 2040

You better hope Indians keep going on the merry go round of Tejas and Amca

Someone is going to get very rich if the world's third biggest economy by 2030 decides no more Indigenous fighter planes

Really ? Except missiles what exactly are the success stories of DRDO ?
As far ISRO is concerned, RLV is a highly ambitious project. It will take time..
