Most awaited platform. Upon induction these will become most powerful element of Pakistan navy.

I hope PN will make more naval bases. Especially for subs, something like these:

Our subs keep anchored visibly in Karachi. Its just fixed coordinates, a surprise attack ( a supersonic missile at fixed target) can take out such key assets. It will take 2 mins for such missile to reach harbor. We must be prepared for all eventualities. We must build multiple naval bases. 2 naval bases (that too without adequate docking stations is certainly not a good idea). We usually stack our ships at a single docking station. Which makes undocking very slow plus a single target for enemy to take out multiple platforms (if a surprise attack has to be done).

Ormara's western side is naturally a very good location for these. Its currently not developed. But the massive elevation automatically protect it from projectiles fired from east. Here is Ormara, where probably we can have those bases.

Submarine pens were part of the planning for Ormara when it was awarded to STFA for construction. However, later on, this did not materialize. Maybe the cost was too exorbitant at that time and the sub fleet was relatively small. Now that we will most likely be fielding 11 submarines in the fleet, there would be a rethink to housing subs in pens specially after BuM.

Every day there are reports on both sides delivered to the desks of key personnel on either. These are much more comprehensive and generally more accurate than any speculation here.

That being said “loose lips sink ships” -
Knowledge is more commonplace but so is the urge to go online and talk at an extent.

Especially those with relatives in the military and the fault lies partly with then and partly with the military folk.

Since 2004 on Pakistani forums there is one thing Ive learned - if you know something - don’t say anything until you hear someone else say it.

And then, twist it and mix it up 60% so the actual facts and any potential opsec is so muddled no one can actually tell the truth even if it is plainly written on the page.

Faithfully doing this for 20 years
we don't have a strong culture in our forces to punish the personnel leaking confidential info. I am all for leaking misleading info and so much of it to make it difficult guess what is right and what is wrong.

Hi @Quwa

I found this old article in your website

Any update on this ? What sort of work was done at Ormara and what is yet to be done. Any expansion plans / submarine underground bases ? Also the article mentions a single mini-SSK. Never heard of it again, was it ever built ?

Since it's submarine-related, the news and details (after this point) went silent. The PN these days prefers keeping all news about sub-surface activities secret until projects are basically complete (e.g., SWATS).

IMO, moving forward, we probably won't hear of any PN subsurface procurements until they're several years past induction.

At least two were publicly modernized and delivered to PN, It would stand to reason the third one has been modernized as well, but by then PN had gone silent, so it’s impossible to say the status.

That's plausible. But PN is literally very open about its flag ship Hangor submarine program. It got due media coverage, Every time there is steel cutting, launching or any other milestone then we do get to know.

Agosta upgrades are also well known. The location of sub anchoring is also well known as all is visible in satellite imagery.

Perhaps maybe in future they want to keep secret about it or perhaps secrecy is so far limited to mini-SSKs.
