Hangor Class Submarine | Updates & Discussion

These submarines must be able to deploy tethered drones for surveillance and hypersonic missiles to destroy the detected threats for better shoot and scoot۔۔۔۔

do we have any plans/confirmation on YJ-18/YJ-19 hypersoinc missiles on the Hangor class subs, or these are well wishes atm?

No comfirmation, but likely will be purchased. YJ-18E
Most sensible / likely choice for Hangors along with optionally Babur-IIIs.

Nobody is going to give you hypersonic missiles.

Its already cleared for export. Its designation is YJ-18E. Its not exactly a hypersonic missile. It reaches terminal speed of mach 3. Hypersonics is 5+ mach.

YJ-18E
Maximum cruise speed: Mach 0.8
Maximum terminal speed: Mach 3
It is a subsonic and supersonic combined cruise missile, not a hypersonic missile.
The PLA's domestically used version has a maximum range of 600 km, while the export version, limited by the MTCR, has a maximum range of 298 km. The warhead of the export version was also reduced by one-third, only two-thirds of that of the PLA's own version.------ This is publicly available official information; nobody knows the truth.

YJ-19
It has not yet obtained an export license. As for the future, I don't know!

Hypersonic is not just about speed but also how the missile behaves in the air and its trajectory. There are very few true hypersonic missiles in the world. Everything else is a marketing hype.

I believe that spreadsheet said to be shared by the Chinese that details weapons exports to Pakistan (I can't find it , it was also shared on this forum ), which indicates among others the 36 J-10CEs , also indicates the C-802 missiles for Hangors. However, we need longer ranged and higher speed missiles(at least in the final approach like YJ-18) for the 'Lone wolf' missions, stalking enemy surface groups or harbour entrances. This missile itself should be able to swerve around on launch making it harder for enemy to detect the exact direction of launch to ensure the survivability of the numbering sub. Also the sub should be able to deploy tethered aerial drones to help with targetting, that far from friendly assets.
