‘I want to cry’: Afghan medical students in Pakistan face expulsion fear

Stupidity at the highest level. Let them finish their degree and they will become your ambassador.

Ambassador? How many Afghans have become Pak's ambassador after living in Pakistan for generations? I have never seen or heard of a single Afghanistani who ever uttered a single word in Pakistan's support. On the contrary. all of them curse Pakistan, oppose anything related to Pakistan, and support (and join hands with) Pakistan's enemies to harm Pakistan. I have never seen more ungrateful people than these Afghanis including Taliban.

However, it's not a matter of hate or love. No country in world allows undocumented foreigners, be it a student, worker, or a refugee. The medical students having proper documents should be (and I am sure will be) allowed to continue their education. However, the illegal ones must be deported from Pakistan and allowed to return only with valid travel/entry documents. What is wrong with that?

Pakistan is already paying dearly with blood for the foolish past policies regarding Afghanis pursued by successive Pak governments. Terrorism, smuggling, crime, and what not came with these Afghanis. Pakistan has been sliding down to become a lawless state with the law of the land overcome by mafias just because of those policies. That down slide must be stopped and reversed by full enforcement of the law everywhere. In advanced countries, an offender cannot tell the police officer that 'uncle muaaf kar do, ab nahi karoon ga'. It becomes a matter/affair between the accused and the judge.

If Pakistan had no afghan refugees a tightly controlled border then even if Pakistan had decided to put boots on ground in Afghanistan with NATO which they should have and also in NWFP and wider KPK immediately in 2005, they still would have remained untouched.

Look at Turkey and their internal security situation during the height of ISIS in Syria back in 2012. Completely unaffected because the border looked like this.

Friend, I don't want to be a bearer of bad news but some things I have to clear up.

Turkey is a secular nation, people within that vicinity have traditionally observed secular points of view in the past and current century.

The situation in the broader Middle East is "dynamic" (I was trying to find the word to describe it and that was the best I could find).

For example, many people head to Turkey in order to make their way to Europe, these borders in all honesty mean nothing.

This now brings us to the political apparatus. Why then are certain regions more prone to "destabilization" or "subterfuge" more than others? This is the political problem, and it has more or less to do with interests, race and religion than anything.

Let me point to an example that crystallizes this point of view more than any other... Yugoslavia or rather the Balkans.

That area is like a volcano, different ethnics, different religions, its a disaster waiting to happen. Bismarck said it best when he said that it would be the Balkans... "some damned foolish thing in the Balkans"... And he was right, WW1 (whatever the backstory) was triggered because of the Balkans.

Now this brings us to Pakistan. Pakistan and Afghanistan is like Asias Balkans, you have a religious mess, you have an ethnic mess, and all of this adds to political ammunition waiting to be exploited by anyone who feels aggrieved or wants influence., especially foreigners.

This is not to say that Turkey isn't prone to this, it is as a matter of fact, we've been fighting PKK much longer than anyone. But it was the Kurds who took up arms against religious fanatics. If they however embrace fanaticism like the rest of the middle east is doing, then that fence you see in the picture will mean nothing. That is the bottom line. Everything comes down to the people, and the people of Afghanistan are connected to the people of Pakistan and Iran. The only reason they can't do anything to Iran is because of different religions, but believe me if Iran and Afghanistan were both Shia and Afghanistan wanted to cause trouble in Iran, it would do so without any difficulty, that's what it really comes down to.

Hopefully this cleared up a few misconceptions.
