IMF: Japan to fall to 6th in 2027 global GDP rankings

Indians will not be allowed in cuz he stands out as de ultimate gaijin here.

Sorry but Japan and Korea will not accept Indian people.

Temporary student/ care giver/ 7 eleven/ Lawson/ Family Mart worker/ food processing worker/ fruit veggie picker on work visa is ok but they will not be issued PR visas.

@Beijingwalker lives here and he knows exactly what I'm talking about.
In general they are not too keen on foreign workers, but their ageing populations doesn't leave them much choice.

More than anything, my impression is that they’re wary of overtly religious types, especially when it comes to Islam. They might not say it openly, but there seems to be little willingness to accommodate certain religious practices, which can make everyday life harder for ppl of certain faiths.

South Korea, Taiwan top Japan in exports for first time on AI boom

There are several issues here.

Firstly, the distinction between FY and CY is a legacy of British colonialism. Most countries report ther full year economic metrics for Jan -Dec and what the IMF has projected is GDP for Jan-Dec 2027. Since almost all countries release quarterly GDP data, it is easy to reconcile with the national data of even those countries that use a different FY.

Secondly, just because a currency has depreciated in the past does not mean it will depreciate at the same rate or, even, at all , in the future. PKR depreciated substantially between late 2021 and 2023 , and is now almost 10% stronger than its low from September 2023.
Thirdly, the FX rate in a forecast is not an entirely exogenous variable. It is intertwined with both the growth and inflation forecast. A weaker currency will help export growth and increase inflation, which will increase the value of local currency nominal GDP and offset a lower FX conversion value to USD. After Indian Central Bank raised interest rates and started intervening in the FX market, their currency has strengthened in the last few days. The IMF would have incorporated the more restrictive policy in downgrading its forecast for real GDP growth from the latest 7.8% figure.

Finally, it is just a forecast and can always end up being way off, but the approach used by the IMF is more analytically robust than just pulling numbers out of thin air.

IMF change estimates every 6 months. IMF make nice list of all countries to compare but its not always apples to apples comparison. I rather look at official GDP numbers. India GDP will not cross $4t even by March 2027 while IMF have it already over $4t for some time.

India is defending INR like a country under IMF program. Restricting gold imports, restricting oil companies to buy USD from open market etc So estimating GDP in USD 2 years in advance doesn't make sense in this case. India can decide to not defend INR and let it slide past 100. A lot can happen by 2028.

"India's RBI has spent half of $140 billion FX capital haul in rupee defence"

Oh bhai I got 3 passports no? Humreeka/ Aussie/ Pendu.....I'm given 3 year renewable PR spouse visa only. Cannot even get 5 year visa man.

You want Jap passport, then you surrender all your other passports and take mandatory Jap classes so you at least qualify for Level 2 Japanese proficiency.

Its hard to stay here for regular humpty dumpty colonial type colluddzz/ commercial people.

Nobody speaks English!

There are no foreigners here except poor people from Fillipeendo/ Nepal/ Sri Lanka working in 7 eleven cashier jobs or canneries/ fruit/ veggie farms seasonal jobs or care givers in nursing homes as ward boys/ orderlies etc.

Very homogeneous here. And that's exactly what the Japs want due to extreme xeno society.

East Asian citizenship is some of the hardest to get in the world no doubt. Even I as someone who gave up my chinese citizenship would have a lot of difficulty regaining it.

Good, let's finish off Japan in the annals of world history as this insignificant island nation should be. East Asians won't miss Japan.
