I don’t think Pakistanis are wrong to compare India with China rather than with Pakistan. In fact, we Indians are sometimes foolish to use Pakistan as our benchmark. Setting the bar that low may make you feel good, but it tells you very little about where India actually stands.

High-speed rail is not as important as having a comprehensive railway network that reaches every corner of the country. The same applies to roads—expressways, highways, local roads, and village roads all need to be developed and connected. Building and maintaining this nationwide transportation infrastructure is a much more complex challenge than constructing just one or two high-speed rail corridors.
