“INDIA WILL THEREFORE BE PAYING A TARIFF OF 25%, PLUS A PENALTY FOR THE ABOVE, STARTING ON AUGUST FIRST. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER. MAGA!”

Figures compiled by Washington show the US trade in goods with India were an estimated $129.2bn (£97bn) in 2024, making it the US’s 10th largest trading partner. The US goods trade deficit was worth $45.7bn.

Trump’s criticism of India comes as he ramps up pressure on Moscow amid growing frustration with Putin’s war in Ukraine. Trump had claimed before his inauguration in January that he would be able to end the conflict within 24 hours of taking office.

Dozens of large countries around the world remain locked in negotiations with Washington with only days to go before Trump’s deadline of 1 August to reach agreements on trade. The White House has threatened to unilaterally apply higher tariffs if deals cannot be reached.

India never had a god.
But Pakistan always had one.
Earlier it used to be the US. US was everything till your establishment tried to double cross them. Same Trump had made some interesting remarks about Pak. But people have very convenient memories.
Now the god role has shifted to China. China is everything. Pakistan has always put all it’s eggs in one basket and the stellar results are known to everyone.

Even this time, Munir was enamoured so much just by a lunch that he dished out Nobel Peace prize right away.

But for India the god is India itself. It places national interests above these godly inclinations like Pakistan.

Even in this scenario, India might end up stop buying Russian oil, but has taken on the US by openly questioning their own role in trading with Russia. It’s has chipped away US attempt to dictate terms by openly opposing them.

Not good enough. If anything, Modi's India got exposed for double dealing. When your country is a member of QUAD it needs to adhere to the rules and principles of QUAD.

I find it hilarious. You guys went from Trump is God to he is a clueless dick. Just admit it. You cannot fool Trump. American jobs, American dollars and American preferential treatment were yummie until it lasted. Once Trump started questioning India's duplicitous behaviour, America and Trump became the evil guy. You know how this looks, right?

Trump is absolutely sensing weakness in India, especially after the debacle which India faced after the May 2025 conflict. Trump can sense that Russia is either no position to help India much or just may not help out of spite. Trump knows that Britain and France would side with America in the UNSC. Trump did the same to China, bond market went belly up... he said "yippee" and put an immediate pause... China had cards.
It was assumed that he'd be able to persuade Putin as well... with carrots and sticks... and Putin saw right through him. He wants cards... India has none! So India is the one he plays...
Butcher of Gujarat only awaits his comeuppance... a persona non grata in the US was provided relief by the then Pakistani Premier by attending his first inauguration... which led subsequently to Obama removing the curbs and the dude has since been on a PR hugging tour the world over... only to fall face first as he exits the world politics.

India being as isolated as it is makes capitulation the most likely outcome... or simply resign out of world power politics.

DT might have never expected silence and noncompliance from India. He was expecting GoI to silently fall in line and sign Trade deal just like Pakistan and hoped to achieve whatever he wanted.

Now not only India refused to fall in line, MEA’s quirky reply might also made him perplexed, MEA reply has hit him where it was mattered and press conference showed how misinformed he was.

Since his last ultimatum was for 24 hrs and now MEA wording has spooked him we have to wait for his next move, as GE-F414, MQ-9B & further orders for P-8I & AH-64E deals are on the line quite interesting days are coming ahead
