Best bet they have will be to go for large Rafale order. It is a good plane and only way to stop the decline, as in 3-5 years 6 Jag Sqds and 3 MIG-29s Sqds may need retiring, IAF will be smaller then PAF by then.

Making Rafale in India is only option for them. French know this so can sit back, double the price and see Indians pay.

Technologically there are only two main players now, US and China. Maybe ask China for J-35, you have a better chance then with F-35....

Buying a fifth generation fighter is a waste of money for India , in my opinion. India should focus on strengthening her economy. Modi announced a large stimulus over the weekend that more than overwhelmed the news of breakdown of trade talks with the US and the stock market is having one of its best days in recent times. There is no point wasting resources on the military beyond the minimum deterrence required.

There is only one daddy and the indian military can confirm it 1000%. It is called the Pakistan Airforce (PAF).

No, not at all, but we have a flow of JF-17s, J-10Cs and in the future J-35s that we can count in, on average PAF has been gaining new fighters at the rate of 1 Sqd a year.
We may be awaiting new J-10Cs or hop directly to the J-35, that is murkey right now and JF-17 production is dedicated to Azerbaijan.

However, let me put it in very clear terms, IAF has not received a single new fighter in almost 4 years. Not a single one.

Tejas not coming through yet, and Rafale deliveries have stopped. There is nothing in the pipeline other then hoping Tejas comes good and MRFCA is signed.

My guess is US and China at one point will decide to push India to the side and do a deal. India's utility will be its mass of people at cheap rates. Militarily we may see Indian power decline very rapidly. Simply put, if India is not a bulwark against China, it serves no military purpose for anyone. It will be left to it's own devices.

That is very bad considering they cannot make a radar or engine for their fighters.
