Indian Air Force News and Discussions ll

It is all BS to keep the masses happy and show them activity is happening but no progress is being made as we all know.

As each year goes by, the Rafale looks older and older....
In india, it takes time to induct as it ruled by a civilian government.

Yes, but some "inductions" never actually occur.

IAF first looked at the Rafale IN 2008. 18 years ago. The same issues then (Dassault guranteeing HAL's work, workshare, siurce code access) have not been resolved.

This is nothing to do with a government, most civilian governments act much more quickly. This is to do with India teasing out France and other countries with the promise of purchases that never happen. US has caught on to this quikcly hence Trump's attitude to India. He can spot a tyre kicker when he sees one.

No country is taking IAF RFPs seriously now. No one even bothers sending jets to Aero India

I think in aero india su 57 and f 35 both participated last time

We do have slow decision making when procuring something , it is true .

It is not "slow decision making", when India wants it can move quickly (look at C-17, Apaches purchases). This is just a show now. I think IAF's 28 strong Rafale fleet is all it will ever operate

IMO, this is more or less inevitable. But you have to wait and see if France agrees to all of India's demands and if they can expedite things on time.

My guess is IAF will cancel and say they now need to focus on 5th gen. Just like they cancelled Mirage 2000 production line to focus on Rafale

Even with nominal Rafales and non existent Fifth gen options, Indian military is not in a very bad situation vs Pakistan. It has its missiles plus more in development, as well as drones, that is all they believe they need for next Sindoor. Their real focus is on SAMS, that is what they really want.

They've been forced to adopt the same doctrine and tactics of the Russians after the RuAF failed to gain air superiority in Ukraine, as well as the Iranians ti some extent, deploying their airforce from max standoff ranges to launch weapons while using missiles and drones for the bulk of their offensive operations, instead of relying on gaining air dominance, which is what the PAF remains focused on, and so it should. The rocket force and Fatah series should allow flexibility in strike operations to support the PAF.

On paper the Indian military is mighty. Real life it has been hollowed out greatly and the air force especially is facing block obsolesence. Even the most optimistic time scales do not have new Rafales enerting till 2032.

Their Navy is very strong but hampered by the need to protect two very mediocre carriers with hardly any planes on them
