Please remember that we are here at this point because of a serious attack on civilians who were only tourists
So we have to respond
Now our expectation is that all
Our future actions will create some deterrence and prevent future attacks on our people
You may not know that but you are already losing 'deterrence' by not acting after so forcefully accused Pakistan for the Pahalgam attack and not following through with your threat. I don't see how Pakistan can be 'deterred' to launch similar attacks in future IF Pakistan was launching such attacks.
I see that indians are advocating for "strategic patience" and construction war, why is that stupid, well in 10 years all technological advantage that they now currently have in certain extent will vanish and be reversed fully into Pakistan favor which will be armed to the teeth by China and Turkiye and actually could become bully instead of defender.
Good post.
A few things are obvious as of now:
1) India didn't get the diplomatic support that it used to get; far from that.
2) Public threats of 'not one drop of water will go into Pakistan' after suspending the IWT was a hard sell diplomatically, especially when no proof was provided. A world which just witnessed similar Israeli threats against the Gazans is rightly sensitized to such rhetoric.
3) Pakistan has just now shown an desire to wage a 'do or die' war this time and many Pakistanis, including me, WANT India to start something so that there will be some strategic settlement through a conflict instead of constant blackmails India has been giving for decades.
4) India has no real friends and looking at some Indian bloggers, they know that even Bangladesh is lost for now. A huge blow to the 1971 War triumphalism; actually, a historic re-affirmation of the Two Nations Theory which was the foundation of the India Pakistan Partition of 1947.
5) Turkey and China--and maybe even Azerbaijan and some other Muslim nations like Bosnia--will help Pakistan if they are able to. The help just provided by China and Turkey and more help in the pipeline just may have prevented a war.
6) Going forward, I wish some kind of off-ramp is given to India to restore the IWT or at least not try to do something stupid to use water as weapon in future. Otherwise, however weak Pakistan maybe on economy it will make sure to match India conventionally.
