Indian Navy News & Discussions

Unfortunately Type 45 is not well armed.
Compared to the American destroyers (Arleigh Burke class) Which carry a VLS capable of holding up to 96 missiles. Uk Type 45 holds half as many as that. But worse is the fact that the Type 45 only carries anti-air missiles in its VLS, She only has 8 harpoons in 4x2 configuration as a weapon against other ships, she also has no ability to carry land strike missiles or missile launched torpedoes. The US ship can carry any missile it wants in any number it wants, including land strike missiles and missile launched torpedoes for anti submarine warfare. America also has over x10 more Arleigh Burkes than the UK has Type 45s.

They are basically Air Defense destroyers and haven't much ship to ground capability but they are able to intercept Houthis cruise and ballistic missiles for sure

Brother we shouldn't expect thanks and even say such things.....

Even if we are not on good terms as a neighbors its our duty to help anyone who is in trouble..... I remember once even Pakistan navy had saved our people on ship...... we should welcome such help from our side even in future....

Baluchs of Pakistan
All balouch
No Iranian accent there.

Seems rebels are scared to attack once they see Indian flags on ships.....
We have to understand what these attacks are.

The Somali attacks are attacks out of Somaliland, precisely, Puntland, using small, motorised boats, that are misleadingly called skiffs in some journalistic accounts. They try to capture a small sailing vessel (the word sailing includes motorised vessels and generally covers coastal Arabian and east African traders and fishing vessels) as a floating base, from which to attack western mercantile vessels for ransom.
They do not attack naval ships. They attack all other ships. As it happens, no Indian flagged ship has been attacked recently; the last incident I remember was my school senior, Captain Wahi, who, with his crew, were hijacked outside Nigeria by Nigerian pirates on the other side of Africa from these current incidents.

The Houthi attacks, using Iranian-supplied drones, have been aerial attacks, and attacks using besides drones cruise missiles of a sort. The Navy Chief was confirming that Indian flagged ships have not been attacked by the Houthis; it is a coincidence that ships attacked have carried Indian crews.

Both sets of attacks occur in the littoral off the southern coast of Arabia, anywhere from where the Red Sea opens out into the larger Indian Ocean, from the Bab al Mandab straits through the Gulf of Aden past Socotra into the Arabian Sea. This is, from what I have gathered in an absent-minded way, the Indian naval beat, whatever others do.

I hope the question of the Houthis attacking Indian flagged ships not arising is understood, and that these might happen in the case of Somali pirates only.

Thanks for such detailed reply..... totally understood.....

Normally navy I have seen doesn't delay that much but don't know why it takes them so long when it comes to submarines..... we have seen delay in scorpeans too.....
I still believe just scrap entire P75 project and approach France for G2G purchase of deadly shortfin barracudas....

Interestingly the Japanese are anchored just off in Djibouti along with a Somalian Landing vessel.
