Iran Foreign Policy and Doctrine

In an unexpected event, the Iraqi Foreign Minister has directly called out Iran for striking Kurdistan because, he says, Iran cannot or does not want to strike Israel instead

There is some truth to that, but it's also true that Erbil is a Zionist nest and legitimate target.

So he basically contradicted himself, live on air. Does he ever wonder where Hezbollah and Hamas get their weapons from?

It been clear to me what's unfolded is along the lines in the tweet below. All things being equal it matches my mental model. I.e. There was coordination between governments in favor of what Iran needed and Pakistan got something too.

good to see Iranian and Pakistani relations back on track

Politicians were threatened. The only ones who were complaining on Pakistan side was the politicians with zero power. Mostly for domestic consumption.

The Generals and military junta didn’t care and likely had knowledge ahead of time.

In Pakistan, politicians are powerless these days. Just look at the Iman Khan fiasco or the fact that not a single PM has ever finished their term in history of Pakistan.

Country is ruled by military when push comes to shove.

On March 1, 2024, Flightradar reported that the Aeroflot A330 RA-73700 (VQ-BNS), which had been in Tehran for almost a year for maintenance, took off for Moscow.

IRAN SEIZES U.S. OIL SHIPMENT WORTH SOME $50 MILLION

Iranian media reported on March 6 that the Islamic Republic has confiscated a shipment of crude oil belonging to the United States from a tanker flagged under the Marshall Islands. The tanker, Advantage Sweet, was seized by Iranian naval forces last April after an alleged collision with an Iranian boat in the Persian Gulf. The seizure, estimated at around $50 million, was carried out following a Tehran court order in favor of Iranian patients suffering from Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), a rare skin disease.

These patients sued over the lack of Swedish-made medicine, attributing it to U.S. sanctions. Interestingly, a cargo of Iranian oil was unloaded off the coast of Texas from the Suez Rajan, a Marshall Islands-flagged tanker seized by the U.S. last August. This same tanker, now named St Nikolas, was seized by Iranian naval forces in the Gulf of Oman earlier this year following a court order.

These incidents reflect a pattern of ship seizures in the Persian Gulf and nearby waters, often provoked by U.S. attempts to enforce sanctions on Iran, which Tehran sees as reactions.
