It's no surprise US sees little to no reason to compromise. Why would they? Their homeland is untouched, the events are taking place 1000s of miles away from their borders. The ones that are suffering, America couldn't care less about (Inc their own citizens at the bottom of the food chain). Iran has to accept that this strategy won't work (one side is suffering, the other isn't).

You either extract a price from them, or accept that you'll have to give in to their demands (nuke concessions) and hope they keep their end of the bargain.

Fuel prices alone are just NOT going to do it sadly.

I feel there is too much wrist slitting here and people shouldn't depend on oil moving through the Straits as an indicator that Iran is doing poorly.

Oil moving through the Strait does not mean Iran cannot stop it. They allow it to flow because it serves their interests and keeps China aligned, complete with some financial return.

Iran has made strategic miscalculations in the past including being too patient. But they will not be that stupid to abandon its central source of control, if they want to continue maintaining power.

Washington can claim victory over open transit routes all day, but that does not change the fact that Iran controls the Strait and maintains the ability to strike whenever it wants. US efforts to counter this are largely effective in name only e.g. acting tough through rejection of negotiations, broadcasting of the rial depreciating.

Reality remains that Trump can only claim real control of Straits, the day the US physically invade and secure those islands, with US Navy ship moving freely.

What we are witnessing is just 20 percent of what is happening behind the scenes. Hence, we shouldn't be speculating Iran is doing poorly.
