The big question is what kind of weapons are the B2s equipped with? If they are free-fall bombs, they have to penetrate the airspace, which assumes that the air defenses have to be destroyed first. Israel has already made an attempt, but it may have been just reconnaissance.

stand off weapons don't have sufficient range to hit anything buried underground

they need weeks long SEAD/DEAD missions before they can use B-2

must be a ruse

history suggests the US will start an attack by launching hundreds-thousands of cruise missile strikes from destroyers to suppress air defences

I think the assumption is correct, but they can't launch more than 100-150 cruise missiles at once, Syria is a good example of this. If this were to happen, then fortunately Iranian ballistic missiles would have a great day, because the ships do not change direction during the launch, they sail at a steady pace.

they can launch from 1000km+ away

Iranian anti-ship ballistic missiles likely cannot reach them

slower cruise missiles like Abu Mahdi could try but unlikely to have access at that range and speed
 
It could happen, unfortunately they can come from multiple directions, and they could even be launched from the Mediterranean Sea, not just the ocean. I think the Iranian air force needs to be active, the F14 is exactly what it's for, the other planes can be useful with simple infrared missiles, while the air defenses change positions.

yes strong air force is very important for this

but we don't see f-14 and mig-29 used for this purpose in drills much

su-35 would be important addition for this strategy too
 
In fact, the use of the B2 makes the task of defense both more difficult and easier. On the one hand, its stealth design, and on the other hand, the route, it must use a route that avoids radar stations. The disadvantage is that it carries heavy weapons, such as bunker destroyers, so the number of targets is limited, making defense easier.

No. The whole point of the F-117, B2, F-22 and F-35 is to go in first as in first strike without SEAD/DEAD strikes. Iran is not going to see the B2's coming they will only know they are there when things blow up. B2's come with a very advanced BAE EW just like the F-35.

Not that there is going to be any attack on Iran by Trump but lets say they are there just incase the B2's are there for one specific type of targets... Iran underground nuke sites.

A B2 carries 2 GBU/MOP with the second MOP dropping 2 seconds after the first one trailing the first one to the same target making sure it goes in deep.

How many F117s were shot down?
The one Serbians got to shot down was also due to same route used by pilot over and over again.
And Americans have taken Stealth to whole new level from that of F117
So whole point of B2s and Raptors is to operate in AD saturated environment.
F117 was actually the one who broke the AD backbone of Iraq and cleared the way for Fourth Gen Fighters to operate.

US conducted SEAD/DEAD missions before using F-117 and it was still shot down by old soviet system

I am not under any illusions - the US has cutting edge LO and VLO technology likely unrivalled by anyone else on the planet. but that doesn't mean they are magic weapons that can never be challenged
