The Iranian proposal would be a huge win for Iran and so no wonder Netanyahu (aka Trump) is not liking that. I don't know why so many Iranians here are breast beating about it, just like they didn't like the original JCPOA. Iran has some cards to play with but doesn't have the whole deck. Work with what you have. Bide your time. Wait for this nasty US Administration to leave the office. This is nothing but a Netanyahu stooge sitting in the White House and Netanyahu is not going to lose any opportunity to take advantage of Trump in office.
Bide your time! The next US Administration, if a strong Democratic majority, will be much different on the Middle East, AIPAC or not.

It will not, the Democratic party is controlled opposition. The US is a one-party dictatorship with a rotating chairman position.

And yet between George W Bush vs Obama, it was Obama that put the most sanctions and UN Security Council resolutions on Iran, not Republicans. It was Obama that was the first admin to sanction Iranian oil.

Remember that: It was President Obama who did the JCPOA against bitter opposition from the Saudis and the Israelis. Watch the press from those years. It took about 2.5 years of bitter negotiations and opposition to reach the JCPOA.
The American interests in the Middle East don't totally align with Netanyahu's vision.
BTW, sorry to say this: Posts like yours betray extremely lazy, uninformed understanding of the American political system. During the Gaza war, 19 out of about 50 Democratic Senators voted to block arms sales to Israel. Just a few days ago, 38 of those Senators voted to block the arm sales.
America is an evolving, democratic system despite all its flaws. Work with what you can work with. At least see how the Jewish community works in a concerted way and it is not all about the money--they are very smart in electoral politics.

The Americans are now claiming that two USN ships are "operating" in the Gulf after "transiting" through the strait.

Does this tally with earlier Iranian reports targeting USN ships, with the US now implicating they they missed the ships and they "made it into the Gulf" ?

They had to do that in order to get the nuclear deal with Iran. The Jewish/evangelical/war lobbies in Washington are all-powerful. I think Mr Obama deserves some credit with his fresh Iran/Cuba approaches, which were directly against what Washington establishment,Congress and lobbies wanted.
