That's why is said "heavy" specifically. It needs to be heavy enough to force the enemy to make alternative plans. USA can tolerate several, maybe more, material losses.They took down A10s helis and now supposedly a c130 and 1more heli should be better but that's not nothing.
Anyway Iran eeds to impose more heavy costs. Costs and targets which are irreplaceable
The losses inflicted by Iran's air defence is theoretically supposed to compensate for the lack of an air force. One only needs to think back to Somalia in 1993 where an intolerable price was exacted on the US in a similar scenario. Pakistan bailed a defeated US out that day, interestingly enough.
But I remain optimistic because you're right that some aircraft were hit. Iran simply needs to plug this gaping hole in its strategy with MANPADs for paramilitaries. It's doable.
