Major historical events have often started as minor events. Geopolitics is sometimes like the butterfly effect of Chaos theory where minor instabilities lead to major changes. Just imagine - no assassination in 1914 - no WW1 - No WW2 - No Hitler - No Israel - Iran will continue to exist as a normal country. Mind boggling!

My speculation here is that Iran has prepared for a ground invasion owing to its geography instead of venturing out in the open and get picked much easily. Which also explains a deeper and resilient defensive setup.

Though they'll have to go on the offensive in the region to disable/dissuade any perch available to mount an attack against Iran.
