Well, I’m not sure about your confidence; but I’ll say that one thing Iran has done well in this war is expand the scope of the conflict/war arena to GCC countries, the world economy (by closing the Strait of Hormuz); whereas Israel cannot escalate the same way against Iran to deliver a knockout blow, because it will face an existential threat if the war is prolonged and expanded (facing direct threats from multiple non-state actors at its border).

For the first time, Iran is setting the agenda/rules/conditions of the war. It is not playing the game Israel wants it to play.

The reason Jews have never dominated militarily in their 3000+ years history is because they aren’t great warriors.

They are leeches who rely on others.

Israel cannot act alone.

Whereas Iran is happiest when acting alone.

I am pretty confident Trump isn’t going to escalate.

Israelis are trying to expand their borders which their pampered, emigration-prone population can't sustain. There are only about 50 million Jews in the entire world. Israel has a tough time containing even the West Bank Palestinians, let alone Gaza, let alone trying to gobble up southern Lebanon or the territories in the Golan Heights or the recently acquired territory in southern Syria.
A pampered emigration-prone population duped into settling down in a desert climate surrounded by people who hate, hate, hate you is not a recipe for long term survival. Maybe the Rabin of the 90s had the right idea or the Israeli founders before him but Netanyahu is scripting Israel's demise. That's what Chas Freeman says.

NY Times main page right now. A pivotal, and probably decisive point will be the American reaction to this recent escalation. By now the majority of us can conclude that the Americans want out and that the Israelis want to escalate. The American response will settle if there is any truth behind the conspiracy theories behind the ceasefire buying time for Israel/America to replenish or not.

This could be a psyop. Trump has not shown any determination to withstand Netanyahu's pressure. Before he agreed to Netanyahu's demands on the Feb 28 war against Iran, his VP, secretary of state, and Pentagon's Joint Chiefs of Staff were all against the war, yet he overruled them and followed Netanyahu's lead.

Truth is, Trump is playing a good cop while Netanyahu is playing the bad cop. At the end, Netanyahu and Neocons in Washington are prevailing over Trump.

One thing we need to be cognizant of.

Iran’s redline for Israel was Beirut/Dahiya, not all of Lebanon (including southern Lebanon). There were plenty of attacks by Israel, and Israeli incursions into southern Lebanon, without eliciting a response from the Iranians.

Even Trump’s previous statement was about him asking Netanyahu not to attack Beirut.

So this might (or might not) be a mistake on Iran’s part. Maybe they feel confident that Hezbollah and their FPV drones can inflict serious damage on the Israelis and increase costs on them; so they don’t need to get directly involved.

I’m not so sure about that: while think Israel has incurred a big cost in southern Lebanon, Southern Lebanon (not Hezbollah necessarily) has incurred a far greater cost from Israeli attacks.

It will be humiliating for Israel to not directly attack Iran after this, but they can still keep the heat up (or expand) in southern Lebanon and not get the Iranians involved.
