The US is a paper tiger in the sense that it cannot do its will to even Iran which has been sanctioned throughout basically the entire technology era that has been experienced so far.
The US would have obliterated countless countries. Yes. We all know there are countless defenceless countries in the world. It's actually what a paper tiger is capable of doing. Against anyone that can actually shoot back, they falter.
The US cares deeply about West Asia/Middle East oil infrastructure because it cares deeply about keeping energy supplies affordable so as to perpetuate the cycle that gives it actual strength - petrodollar cycle -> export inflation -> debt cycle perpetuation without collapse. It does not want to see West Asia/Middle East oil infrastructure go up in smoke so that all countries are forced to diversify into renewables with even more money going to China for those renewables and pumping up the industries in China that innovate and produce those technologies. Furthermore, the US either own and dictate most West Asian/Middle Eastern oil production outside Iran's. Russian oil would become a major alternative to American oil if that becomes the case.
It is precisely Iran's ability to economically strangle the world through SOH, drain Israel and US of weapons supply in an era where China is enforcing some rare earth restrictions particularly for military application, and the fact that Iran can use ballistic missiles and drones as weapons of war to hit US and Israeli military installations and as weapons of terror against Israel and US controlled vassals that is Iran's strength within context.
Yes in a more isolated scenario, US would obviously obliterate Iran but war isn't ever in isolated scenarios and without leverage.

Well, all I can say is that the Emirati officials said that the recent Iranian strikes have convinced them to purchase more weapons from the US and get closer to Israel.
I think contrary to what people here believe, Arabs like Bahrain, Kuwait and the Emirates would buy more American weapons after this. They are already investing in US air defense systems.
As for the US, even if we include the US indirect loss like higher oil prices and other stuff, I'm sure it won't exceed $150 billion. That's peanuts for the US. The US official cost for the war is about $50 billion or so. Now let's generously round it up to $100 billion. The Americans use 375 million gallons of gasoline per day. Average price has increased by about $1. That hardly exceeds $40 billion since the start of war until now. Trillions is too optimistic.
Whats the obsession how this war impacts US home land, US home land is viable because of USD is a reserve currency.

How come they didn't just do that with Iran then if they have the supposed hard power capabilities to pull that off like they want the world to believe?
Venezuela handed its resignation over to the US when its leadership class took USD and passport deals or whatever bribes the US intelligence offered. The Americans could not do shit to Iran outside of strikes which any reasonable military power can pull off with ease... I mean Iran hit countless US military targets that are defended by multilayered IAD and did the same to Israeli military and unfortunately also civilian targets. The US would run out of conventional ordinance before they could completely defeat Iran using stand off strikes alone. America is navigating its decline in a way that allows its elites to still maintain as much influence and wealth as possible given their decline.
It's taken massive hits and continues losing ground but it's still a juggernaut. There is a reason why Trump and the entire American elite class went to China a month ago for negotiations. Basically the 21st century's Yalta moment but only "G2".
China is helping with this US decline because a catastrophic implosion for the US is dangerous for everyone and will result in global economic Armageddon for just about everyone if it isn't a well controlled descent.

Pauses are more favourable to Iran because the cost to supply Iran with its main instruments of war are cheaper and faster to acquire and assemble than that for Israel and US.
Not to mention Israeli and American weapon supplies require rare earths from China which are more tightly restricted these days. Iran doesn't appear to have rare earth supply strains for their ballistic missiles and drones more due to scale of application and the patterns of attrition between drone vs interceptors required for each drone/missile.
Not to mention Iran is 100% focused on this fight because it is for everything while US needs to worry about conserving arms and supplies for potential fights with North Korea, Russia and/or China, while maintaining presence in multiple theatres.

Bush's threat to send Pakistan 'Back to the Stone Age' after 9/11 may have been valid then but that was a quarter century ago. Pakistan, along with maybe Turkey, has the best air defense system in the entire Muslim world now, no small thanks to the Chinese.
But it is hypothetical and actually the relations between Pakistan and America are the best since the Nixon years. No point discussing this.
