There is no justification for Iran to target commercial ships passing near Oman. It is also unreasonable to demand that these vessels sail closer to the Iranian side of the Strait of Hormuz so that Iran can potentially impose a toll in the future.

No country or operator would agree to such conditions for long.

But that is the only leverage Iran has, and the article 5 of MOU clearly states:

"5 — Upon the signing of this MOU, the Islamic Republic of Iran will make arrangements using its best efforts for the safe passage of commercial vessels with no charge, for 60 days only, from the Persian Gulf to the Sea of Oman and vice versa. The traffic of commercial vessels will immediately start, and considering the need for removing the technical and military obstacles, and demining by the Islamic Republic of Iran will be instated within 30 days. The Islamic Republic of Iran will conduct dialog with the Sultanate of Oman to define the future administration and maritime services in the Strait of Hormuz in discussion with other Persian Gulf littoral states in line with the applicable international law and the sovereign rights of coastal states of the Strait of Hormuz."

By directing shipping traffic to the Omani side of the Strait of Hormuz under US protection and without consulting with Iran is a clear violation of article 5 in that agreement.

And with such background, not sure how you can make the case that "There is no justification for Iran to target commercial ships passing near Oman".

Remember, the dispute is not between Oman and Iran; it is between Iran and the US, where on the US side a guy named Bitchjamin Satanyahu is calling the shots.

Throwing Oman under the bus is the most convenient scapegoat. Oman has no say regardless. They cannot force US out. Generally they take the path of least resistance and no one should blame them for it. US is plowing through Omani waters as Oman doesn't exist and when told by Oman otherwise face bombing threats from none other than the orange-in-thief. And those ships in turn undermine the MoU the way Iran intends.

American voted for Trump twice. Why did they do that if they disapprove of his policies?
When trump murdered Soleimani in his first term, Americans responded by making memes about being drafted into ww3 because their only concern is how they are personally affected.
I doubt even 1% of voting age adults have ever attended a political protest. I don't see the 99% get a pass.
They aren't against the war, or bombing hospitals, or killing children. They are against high gas and grocery prices only.

Regardless, yours and my tax dollars pay for the bombs that are used to kill them. We also reap the benefits of the killing and looting of these countries. 99% of americans would prefer this continue so they can keep getting next day amazon deliveries than stop it.
