Oil prices rise after Iran stops ships in the Strait of Hormuz​

Oil prices have risen after Iran said it had stopped two vessels seeking to exit the Strait of Hormuz.

Brent crude was up $1.14, or 1.3 percent, at $90.17 a barrel as of 11:17am in New York (15:17 GMT).

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stopped two tankers from transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Friday while four others changed course, the country’s Fars News Agency reported.

You are arguing against something I did not write. I did not describe a hydrogen fusion reactor. A nuclear thermal engine uses a fission reactor to generate heat, while hydrogen is only the propellant that is heated and expelled to produce thrust. Fusion and nuclear thermal propulsion are completely different concepts.

I think the leverage comes from restricting or expanding the oil supply, not from a complete blockade that can cause the world's economy to crash and convince a reluctant Trump that the Israeli advice of just totally crushing Iranian infrastructure and energy is the way to go.

Other tactics like occasionally hitting tankers or oil storage facilities are meant to keep the oil price high, and thus the pressure on Trump, not to send it to a $150 per barrel apocalypse.

That's a valid concern. However, any potential radioactive contamination would generally be localized and far less severe than the environmental fallout from a nuclear explosion

Still a nuclear weapon with equally adverse ramifications, just less effective as a weapon.

These missiles don't exist because they don't make any sense. The nuclear fallout renders them unusable and they provide no advantage over conventional rocket engines for warfare. Same reasons why the US abandoned their nuclear powered aircraft. The US was developing these engines for interplanetary use to save weight and space on fuel but abandoned them in the early 70s.

I don't think that's an accurate conclusion. The U.S. didn't abandon nuclear thermal propulsion because it was scientifically unworkable or because of radioactive fallout. The NERVA program was largely canceled due to budget cuts and changing priorities after the Apollo era. In fact, nuclear thermal propulsion is once again being actively researched for future space missions because of its significant performance advantages over chemical propulsion.
