I am not sure the US wants to escalate since Trump thinks his economic siege is working

Trump is 100% going to escalate. The tanker idea is reportedly his. US has to escalate because this was a large attack.

When Iran attacked a few ships the U.S. attacked 100 targets in Iran and killed 10+ soldiers and an equivalent amount of civilians plus injured tens.

Now imagine what the repercussions will be for this major missile attack.

I imagine likely several Iranian cities and missile bases as well as the usual coastal targets.

Iran is doing a much better job of protecting the missile launchers now and has shown the ability to launch a 30-40 missile salvo without losing a single launcher

That is because this launch happened before US could get air assets (drones) into Iranian air space.

If you notice the 2nd and 3rd waves were smaller precisely for that reason, in case U.S. fighter jets or drones were flying overhead.

now Iran must follow up with major strikes against oil tankers in Bahrain and Kuwait. if Iran cannot export oil with oil tankers, then Bahrain and Kuwait should not be able to either

The funny thing is the vast majority of oil actually comes from UAE and Saudi Arabia. So hitting Kuwait or Bahrain isn’t going to stem the flows that much.

Until Houthi’s go after Yanbu and Iran goes after the 30+ ships hanging off coast of UAE and Oman waiting to receive oil this whole charade of hitting a tanker every once in a while isn’t enough to turn the tide.

that is close to $400 million in interceptors vs $10-20 million of ballistic missiles

High oil prices hurt China the most. Why would China support high oil prices?

If Iran truly wants China to cooperate with it in pushing up oil prices, it should cede territory and oil fields to China as compensation for the resulting losses, rather than expecting China to help Iran without offering anything in return.
