I wasn't able to dig up much info on a possible shutdown of all border crossings. Just so you know, pausing operations for a day or two isn't really out of the ordinary. The Turkish customs agency is already overwhelmed. The volume of crossings is soaring on both sides of the border. Previously, the Turkish government closed the border to civilians but allowed trade to continue. These restrictions are now lifted.

Plus: The borders between Iran and Iraq are open again. I don't think Turkey has shut its borders at this time. They might have begun restricting regular citizens from crossing the border again, but the key point is trade. We'll have to be patient, though there was a security incident yesterday at one of the crossings:



Intensity turned into tension

Images shared on social media show that security guards intervene in a crowd. It is noted that the surrounding citizens reacted to the incident during the activity in the images.

While there was no official explanation as to why the fight started, it was suggested that the images appeared after the intensity and delays in the operations at the border crossing.
The Gürbulak Border Gate on the Turkish side has recently raised complaints that long waiting times and operations are slow.

The intensity at the border crossing was not limited to the Turkish side. Crowd images from the Bazargan Border Gate in Iran, opposite Gürbulak, were also posted on social media.

Images shared by Iran also show that there is a busy crowd at the border crossing and the officials intervened by a person.

I think people give Saudi too much credit they are just puppets at the end of the day like the rest of the GCC

America tells them how much oil to pump, where to invest their money (mostly AI these days), how much they can trade with other nations and even picks out their leaders for them.

To think the GCC is independent of america is kinda delusional because they are completely controlled in every way by the Americans.

Whether it makes sense for Iran to presently directly hit Israel or not is debatable. What is unavoidable though is that Tehran itself provided a condition (in Islamabad) that the fate of Hezbollah and Lebanon is intertwined with its own. Israel is hitting Hezbollah as we speak. So, I do not believe the Iranian leadership is quite on the same page as you seem to be.

The wider question here, beyond the scope of this thread but worth some consideration, is that Iran probably needed a better generational strategy than such visible bellicosity and locking in with far flung militias who are ultimately very difficult to support directly should they come under pressure (as we have seen with Hamas and Hezbollah, although Houthis are bucking that trend, to their credit).

no, why should Pak, pay any price for any damage to IR, when pak. has not done anything to IR!

problem for Pak. is the lack of strategic choices, for instance, Pak. even now has one steel factory!

likewise, how come we have refineries which can process only one type of oil (there are two types of oil!)

these choices (or forced blunders!) are not a mistake (these are intentional choices to remain in a one camp of USA!)


for a commodity like oil (which can be sold in shortage), how come we managed to sell ourselves short? when our negihbours or distant neighbours are oil producers

It's not Saudi oil per se, I am sure plenty of Iranian oil is getting in, it's the oil price and trade disruption, because post Makkah pact turkey and Pakistan have direct equities in the viability of Saudi oil production, more than before.

I think you are right on trade volumes being a significant contributor. I can imagine border crossings for trade are overstretch massively right now, and I would expect the system to break down from time to time. Customs checks still need to be enforced on trade levels that are 2-3-4-5x normal ?
