Iranian Air Defence Systems | News and Discussions

India is a menace to military hardwares and the counries of origin.

You cannot judge their AD assets by Activity of Indian army. They are losers, worse than their Arab buddies
no , our s300 which were the lastest model were completely disabled by Israel air force while our own systems could survive ....
Even Russia could not establish no fly zone on eastern part of Ukraine with their AD and air force , ....

Looking at how China has overwhelmed the United States in the electronics industry, its technological superiority is a foregone conclusion.
It was a painful mistake to have been deceived by U.S. propaganda for years and to have underestimated Chinese-made equipment.
The Pakistani military, fortified with Chinese fighter jets and air defense systems, brilliantly shattered the prestige of the Indian military, leaving India unilaterally humiliated.
Israel’s prized drones were rendered meaningless in the face of Chinese technology.
I hope that Iran’s leadership will reconsider their stance, even now.
In late October 2024 Iranian indigenous Air Defense was able to blunt a 100+ Aircraft air raid against Iran conducted by the Israeli Air force with Support from the USAF. Not one single Israeli aircraft came closer than a few hundred km to Iranian border let alone penetrate Iranian airspace. The Israelis were only able to hit just over a dozen targets in Iran using Air Launched Ballistic Missiles. The Israelis were able to take out an active stationary over the horizon radar site and some S-300PMU2 fire control radars but the Iran's IADS held the line none the less. Last time I checked the Israelis were vastly superior to the Indians when it comes to training and equipment.

You have to acknowledge that the Israeli plan had been exposed several weeks before it was executed by people in the Biden administration. And still, they managed to take out some of our most valuable AD systems like S-300 FCRs and OTH radars.

OTH radars are our easiest targets to hit

the biggest success was precisely destroying multiple buildings in Shahrud, Parchin and Khojr (and possibly 2-4 s-300 FCRs)

overall it was a systematic attempt to damage the solid fuel missile supply chain, and take out our long range air defences, with a symbolic strike at the suspected/past nuclear site

I said some of the most valuable assets. Easy, but most valuable targets.
For a country like us with no airborne assets, loss of our OTH radars leaves us blind to future cruise missile attacks.

only 1 active OTH radar site was damaged out of 15-20 known sites, not a big deal

and early warning radars are a luxury for early stages of a war, they are not expected to survive long in a real war

there are many other radar systems with 300-500km range that provide sufficient early warning to these strikes. OTH radars are more useful to detect enemy air force activity at long ranges

Not for us. In the absence of airborne assets, these OTH radars are the only way we can see what happens in our large mountainous terrain.

OTH radars are particularly useful for a country like Iran with mountainous terrain where there are too many blind spots. Our other choice is to invest in AWACS aircrafts but we can't do that for a multitude of reasons that you already know.

you underestimate the number of radars in iran

You are missing the point, my friend.
The point is that if we already knew their plan and they managed to succeed, what type of guarantee do we have that our present situation is sustainable if the war lasts for weeks or months?
So, what's our plan? Just like what Pezeshkian said? They will destroy and we will rebuild again?

the plan is to avoid a war with Israel because we know we will suffer greatly in this war

they also knew our plan in advance and couldn't stop it (and possibly didn't even try to stop it in Nevatim), attacker always has the advantage

So, if you already know that, then what are we discussing now? :D Our air defense will never be complete without a decent air force.

Our plan killed nobody and did minimal to virtually no damage. Their plan killed 4 army personnel (confirmed) and did real damage.

You have to acknowledge the the attack came after Iran's public and successful (Penetrating Israeli ABMs in significant numbers on camera) there for Iran already knew that Israel was going to retaliate. The "whistle blower" did not disclose when the attack was coming and it was due to the diligence and professionalism of Iran's Air defense personnel that the attack was rendered ineffective. Despite Israel's claim that Iran's air defense had been destroyed, Iran's IADS remained operational throughout the attack.

'virtually no' is too harsh (destroyed AWACS shelter, large 40x40m building (and smaller surrounding buildings) totally razed, and destroyed part of large building in south of base in Nevatim, and also severely damaged one large building in Tel Nof, plus cost Israel > $1 billion just to defend against the attack, and one Israeli died indirectly from a heart attack while fleeing) but I agree there is a significant difference in the effectiveness of each strike

After the Attack on Ain al Assad airbase in January 2020 the U.S claimed that no U.S personnel was harmed in the attack but later on they slowly started to reveal that U.S personnel had suffered concussions as a result of the attacks. The number of Injuries was over 130 that I remember. Do you honestly believe that Israel is reporting the truth when they say that none of their personnel was harmed in the attack?

Russian AD performed well. No UkrAF fighters or bombers entered Russian airspace. Just Su24 with SCALP and other cruise missiles have penetrated those contested airspace. Also UkrAF uses ULM with piston engines with a kind of automatic pilot as OWA drones. Those drones are just build like all ULMs with some aluminium tubes and fabric and are nearly invisible to radars when flying under 50 meters.

IMO this problem it is not attributable just to Russian Air defenses. Remember that Israel took many missiles that crossed the most protected airspace in the world. Also in Arabia Saudí, in Aramco attack there were some Patriots and (THAADS?) and Iran knocked out many structures with OWA drones.
