Russians are the least trust worthy people in the whole region...never, ever be hokden to them, they will use you and then sell you out.As I guessed , Russians just waited so EU use snap-back and bring back UNSC sanctions so they use it to not deliver anything useful ...
I.R was simply played by others ....
It is a real shame that Iran's fleet of MiG-29 9.12s where not upgraded with the same avionics package of the Kowsar or the upgraded F-4s.Can you at least get the Mig 29s upgraded to SMT standard, and maybe acquire a dozen more.
A fleet of 40 Mig 29SMT with Zhuk ME radar, would give Iran at least one modern platform.
I imagine this would be the fastest option to acquire.
Yes, they should have. What's stopping them? It makes more sense to put that avionics package in a more modern airframe. It is a real shame that Iran's fleet of MiG-29 9.12s where not upgraded with the same avionics package of the Kowsar or the upgraded F-4s.

it is weird that these jets had no roleYeah, those Kowsar and F-4’s did such a great job in the war! Even the F-14AMs! They were fantastic!

I don't expect them to challenge Israeli jets (although they could have done that, some of the Israeli jets were not even carrying AAMs), but they can at least hunt drones and interfere with Israeli attacks
great you hid the jets in an underground base and preserved them. but for what? to preserve them in the next war too? better to use and lose half of them while disturbing the enemy's plans than to not use them at all
friend or foe systems should be able to navigate that. presumably you can distinguish between a f-14 and a f-35There were some videos of Iranian jets doing patrols. But who knows maybe this government didn’t trust airforce pilots also being in the air at the same time as the air defense force targeting things. Friendly fire.
I thought there were some videos of F-5/F-4’s being destroyed near the runway for fast intercept. Most F-14’s were mothballed versions. But I thought they hit at least 1 operating one.
But again we don’t know what they hit or didn’t since Iran hasn’t been forthcoming about the full extent of the damages.

Israel showed footage of them hitting 5 F-14s in total. 2 of them were known to be inactive and used for spare parts, but the others were likely active. but hitting 5 F-14s on the ground doesn't explain what happened to the rest of them and the mig-29s etc
did we see Iranian jets doing patrols during the war?
F5 airframe is small. It would have been great if it could carry Fakhour. It's sad that there are people who still stick with the MIG29. Forget about that platform, it's a dead, crappy thing. Suggestions like this and similar ones are frivolous. Its shipbuilding could perhaps be used in the case of the F5, but it's completely useless in everything else.
