Iranian Foreign & Resistance Front Strategy & Operations

By “some form,” I meant it metaphorically, not literally, because the method differs, but the desired outcome is similar: to purify society from a cultural or ethnic identity. If we want to be more precise, the correct term is ethnocide.

Before 1979, Persian and Islamic identity were not separate, they were one and the same. This unity was deliberately broken by dividing and erasing the Persian civilizational element by portraying it as inferior, un-Islamic, or something to be ashamed of.

In that sense, the revolution’s ideological project was not ethnic cleansing in the physical sense, but ethnocide in the cultural sense, a deliberate effort to destroy Iran’s integrated Persian-Islamic identity and replace it with a homogenized religious-ideological one.

But don't take my word for it:

So its not ethnic cleansing. Thanks for the clarification.
How can you say its cultural ethnocide when you as an Iranian are free to celebrate every Persian holiday you have had from before the revolution? I would Imagine that if the Islamic Republic was really interested in the cultural ethnocide then the least they would do is to outlaw such celebrations.

Even colonial powers tolerate native festivals. For instance, Israel is tolerating Palestinians worshiping their faith and celebrating their holidays. Does that mean their culture isn't being suppressed?

You can call it ethnocide, cultural genocide, or even a form of ethnic cleansing, they’re all points along the same line. The goal in each case is the same: to erase or replace a people’s distinct identity. So let’s not get hung up on terminology, what matters is that there’s a deliberate and systematic effort to erase our heritage.

Here is a good article on how they are neglecting our cultural heritage: https://www.stimson.org/2023/why-the-iranian-government-neglects-the-nations-cultural-heritage/

Here are some quotes from the article:
  • The government spends about 50 cents per day per historical site
  • In 2023, a 2,500-year-old Achaemenid rampart was demolished
  • 70,000 legal and illegal wells around Persepolis
  • In 2020, the entire annual budget for Persepolis was roughly $100. Seminaries receive $120 million.
  • The Cultural Heritage Ministry gets one of the smallest budgets in the entire government.
Now, I could agree that some of this neglect comes from the mismanagement that affects almost every sector in Iran, that’s fair. But when you compare the effort and funding they dedicate to promoting Islam for instance, it’s clear where their priorities lie. Add that Khomeini himself said he “ended 2,500 years of Persian History,” and Khamenei dismissing the Achaemenid and other ancient dynasties as “nothing to be proud of,” the picture becomes clearer. This is a clear and consistent pattern.

Israel has a long history of attacking Palestinian worshippers in Jerusalem and preventing them from worshipping in the Al Aqsa mosque.

You can call it what you want but I would disagree.

Seminaries are the educational centers of our state religion and should be well funded. What is so special about the ransacked remains of a 2500 year old summer palace of a king who lost his entire kingdom to a Macedonian homosexual? How does funding and preserving such a great national embarrassment represent "Persian Pride" to you?

I don't know about this artefact, but destroying your own heritage is the actions of the Taliban and ISIS, and nothing to be proud of

every little symbol or artefact of Persian history is completely priceless

Lol why? You wanna cherish the history of Persians taking it up the A$$ from westerners?

this is borderline trolling and the kind of anti-Iranian rhetoric I would usually expect to hear from a brainwashed Arab
Why is it anti-Iranian? Why not focus on monuments that actually bring pride for Persian history like the Rock relief made in honor of the capture of a Roman Caesar by Shapur I? Every Iranian knows about Persepolis ( A defeat) but how many know we captured a Roman Caesar (a great Victory). Why is that?

Persepolis is a major symbol of Persian history as the capital city with incredible feats of architecture, and cannot be reduced to its fate in one war

Persia was in the crossroads of the world, and 40-50% of the world lived under its rule at the peak. Just because we lost some wars doesn't mean it's embarrassing ...

We can teach people about other proud moments without destroying or denigrating Persepolis.

How does you loving a symbol of Persain defeat make your point?
First of all, Cyrus the great founded the Achaemenid empire, Darius the great built Persepolis and Darius the third is the one who lost in battle. At least get your facts together.

Which one of them let the Jews in?
It wasn’t a single event, around half the worlds entire population were Persian citizens, living under protection of Persian kings. Weird that you are ashamed of them but cheer the morons who let the Jews fly sorties over Iran for 12 days straight nonstop, dropping bombs on our civilians
