I read that Iran, China and Russia are working on plasma-based anti-drone defenses, this might be it.

Well......if they have plasma weapons, why don't they use them on terrorists?

The final "result" was a prototype that was surpassed by the Zolfaghar 2 and Zolfagar 3 Prototypes. None ever went into service.
