Iranian Space program | News and Discussions

What makes you think that they have to be transparent like good little boys and disclose everything?
Expert estimates of Noor Sats resolution
  • Noor-1 (2020): ~15–25 meters per pixel
  • Noor-2 (2022): ~10–15 meters per pixel
  • Noor-3 (2023/2024): ~4–8 meters per pixel

these are private sector satellites launched by ISA and they did disclose this information

Noor satellites are specifically built and launched by IRGC for military purposes, so we can expect different use cases and capabilities

it’s been 17 years (2008) since Iran started its space program. Still no reliable launcher and still [periodically] launching micro-sats to LEO. Now it has gotten into a habit of just relying on Russia for launch.

Might be the slowest space program in human history.
to be fair, 2024 had good progress with successful Qaem-100 and Simorgh launches

but 2025 reverted to norm and nothing happened. the IRGC has a very good record with launches but the war might have impacted their capabilities or priorities

the government now has bigger problems than the space program I guess. not that Pezeshkian gives a single shit about such things to begin with. at least Raisi for all his many flaws recognised the importance of the space program and took tangible steps to revive the program after Rouhani tried to kill it to win favour with Europe

If the current system survives, ISA-IRGCASF both should create joint public-private partnership venues for private investment into sector. They have been launching SLVs for almost two decades now. There is more than one way of opening economy than just oil.

Apparently this was launched from Russia and not Iran.

Does Iran not have geostationary launch capability? 🤔

yes, built and launched by Russia for IRIB

Iran does not have GEO launch capability but it is working towards it

Users here used to mock Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar etc for this very over reliance on foreign countries. Now Iran has reached this position.

The sad thing is some of the countries I just mentioned are progressing faster on joint projects and knowledge sharing.

Iran’s domestic space program is borderline dead. None of the projects are progressing normally or on time. The economic strain makes space even more costly for a country in Iran’s shoes.

It’s now doubtful Iran can reach GEO before 2030.

TEHRAN - The “Jaam-e-Jam 1” satellite belonging to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Broadcasting Organization (IRIB) has been successfully launched into space from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, a spaceport in the Kazakh city of Baikonur.

yes you are right

but we are dealing with sanctions and wars so it's hard to make progress in these conditions

Let me ask.
Can this GEO satellite comunication be capable of data linking beyond line of sight UAVs?.

I am suspecting IRGC just launched it to be capable of guiding UAVs beyond line of sight. But I don´t have any idea about space issues.

doubt it, it's a telecoms sat purchased by IRIB not IRGC

Do people honestly think that Iran will ever declare the launch of military satellites?

Iran doesn't have to.

There are more than enough monitoring stations in the world that record each and every single launch from anywhere in the world.
