Iranian UAVs | News and Discussions

non related question but i am curious how do you settle trade between two countries, some barter arrangements?
they can use cash or gold or barter

theoretically they could even open accounts in Iranian banks. I doubt there is much issue here, they just can't transfer USD/EUR through global banking channels / SWIFT

You can even use crypto. Which we know North Korean state backed hackers are big into.

this analysis suggests that Iran needs to sacrifice 293 Shahed-136 class drones through Iraq and Jordan to guarantee some will reach Israeli airspace

this is a function of the defence capacity over Iraq and Jordan, the probability of success of each interception, the required time for each interception, and the time remaining for interception (itself a function of the speed of the drone)

alternative routes (via Syria or Saudi Arabia) are worth exploring but the main solution is to increase the speed of the drone (which then increases the cost)

if doubling the speed of the drone doubles the cost of the drone but halves the number of drones that need to be sacrificed for an effective saturation strike, this is still worth it and it is easier to store and launch c. 150 drones than c. 300 drones

Shouldn't supersonic and hyper-sonic ballistic missiles be used initially followed by drones and cruise missiles. The former ones are harder to intercept simply due to their speed which will result in failed interceptions relatively to the latter ones.

If the enemy has 6-8 hours preparation and early warning time, their response and interception will be better due to alertness against incoming threat.

Israel has small airspace and therefore, better AD coverage. Small UAVs should be able to cross safely but they will need to be launched from nearby.

the defence systems used for these weapons differ and do not overlap, e.g. iron dome for drones vs Arrow for ballistic missiles.

6-8 hours warning time indeed helps. vs 7-12 minutes total time from launch to impact of ballistic missiles.

the problem is the distance between Iran and Israel makes successful drone attacks much harder (especially when the US has a defensive coalition between them ready to help Israel). Iran cannot launch 300 Shahed-136 drones from nearby

Can Iran try to drop sabotagers from sea to target the batteries using submarine etc and lauch cruise missiles using Kilo or Qaeem Class subs? Why do we have to use UAVs or air-based weaponry? To not put men in harms way?

Is there a policy of using unmanned weapons to not escalate the conflict?

As long as Iran does not acknowledge any covert operation publicly, this strategy might be practical.
