How did a pariah nation like Iran treat Pakistan as if it's no big deal, that can only be through apathy and weakness.

Or consider the converse, why are Iran so bold in some ways, because they have developed the resolve to struggle over years.

I felt a bit the logic and tone of defeatism.

Providing misleads to fool the leadership into making errors is an old trick. Recall how Saddam was forced to make false boasts of having WMDs because he was led to believe Iraq was about to be attacked. We all know how that ended up. Something like that may be at play here too. These things are just about as straight as a bowl of spaghetti.

Agreed - but this unfairness and overt biased sectarian angle has to be called out. No one is “clean” for having loyalties (nurtured or ignorantly misplaced) outside of Pakistan.
