Avi Yissacharov-Yedioth:Netanyahu's government has succeeded in achieving what seemed until recently an impossible task: the release of all living hostages and some of the bodies, without a complete Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. In return, Hamas obtained a ceasefire, and apparently also international guarantees of the kind that Israel would find difficult to violate. These guarantees stipulate that Israel will not attack the Gaza Strip again as long as negotiations regarding the other phases of the Trump deal are ongoing—and it can be assumed that these negotiations will continue for a long time.Hamas will also receive international aid for the Gaza Strip and will be able to re-establish its field and administrative control there, including governmental and administrative aspects. However, the big question now is: What will Israel do if Hamas attempts to rebuild its military capabilities? It is likely that the movement will seek to do so quickly, as long as a comprehensive and final agreement has not been reached.Above all, Hamas has gained international recognition it has never had before, as well as political achievements felt worldwide, such as politically isolating Israel and refocusing attention on the Palestinian cause. One can only hope that the long-term ceasefire will allow Israel to emerge from the international isolation it has entered, resulting from a failed Israeli policy. It appears that the significant shift in the American position, namely President Trump’s decision to impose a ceasefire on Netanyahu, came as a result of the Israeli raid on Hamas leaders in Qatar. It seems that this attempt highlighted its significance to some figures in the American administration, which views Qatar as a strategic ally, and hence the significant American pressure from Washington. From this point, we can begin to discuss what Israel will not achieve: Hamas will not give up its weapons—neither now nor in the near future—except after the establishment of a Palestinian state.Hamas will not be destroyed, defeated, or eradicated, and the complete victory promised by Netanyahu in the past remains an empty slogan.Additionally, the movement rejects any presence of a foreign, non-Palestinian governing body in the Gaza Strip. In return, Hamas will not gain full control over all the territories of the Gaza Strip, nor will it secure the release of all the prominent prisoners on the list it demanded.
