The illustrious No.26 Squadron "Black Spiders" was raised at PAF base Masroor before relocating Peshawar. initially equipped with F-86 sabres. then equipped with F-6s for air superiority role in 1980. Then after equipped with A-5III for tactical attack in 1982.

The "black spiders" were equipped with the JF-17 thunder on Feb 18, 2010 making them the first Pakistan Air Force squadron to operate the new multi-role aircraft. before induction, the squadron used the JF-17 thunder for testing weapons and effectiveness during operation Rah-e-Nijat.
