JF-17 - Updates, News & Discussion

Welcomed upgrade , finally puts JF17 on Par with F16 C/D
There was a marginal disparity with F16C/D before now
it is pretty much equal or better

Considering the new AESA Radar package and Missiles /Load
Capability wise plane may be just better the F16 C/D

More like F16 E/F , level

Only thing remaining to overcome is the "external fuel"
Otherwise , JF17 Block III has grown into a good defensive plane

I dont doubt the JF17C and J10C abilities even exceeding the F16 C/D

but I think Erieye + F16 C/D combination just serves the Air Force as taking the "best" foot forward first

certainly it would change the dynamics if the JF17C gets a kill on a Western jet especially the Rafale

but can you image how angry Europeans and our master USA will be if Rafale gets taken down by a "Eastern" fighter jet

Pakistan couldn't handle the pressure, our Generals will wet their pants , they even wet their pants with Sukhoi shares fell after the last incident and that was Russia

so that's why I think they will opt for the F16 as the primary weapon of choice

The only reason they would go with the F16 over anything else is because they know that the F16 has 10-15 years left for Pakistan and they might as well use it and it's stock of missiles before we retire it

Either way, I think it every plane will have its part to play rather then just the F16

I know that the JF-17B3 can be mounted like this.
However, as an air superiority combat mounting solution, this is too violent. It will affect the maneuverability of the fighter.
4x PL-15 > 800Kg; 2x PL-10 > 210Kg; 3x auxiliary fuel tanks > 1800Kg
The total weight is lower than the maximum load of the JF-17B3.
So, in theory, it is completely fine to mount it like this. But it is not necessary. In actual combat, the configuration of "2x PL-15 + 2x PL-10" will be more balanced.

This load out is ment in such a way, where the primary consideration ie emphasis is on bvr...hence 4 pl ......
A part of jf 17 are on patrol...400 km out are warned by awacs of approaching boogies in the sector....jf 17 closes in n at around 250 km punches out fuel tanks n fire a pl 15 to force the enemy ac into a defensive posture....at around 200- 175km fires a second pl 15 to make sure of the kill if the first bvr as not done the job.....
If the enemy ac also have fired bvr then then the ac is light to carryout the necessary maneuvers .

The russian just shot down a ukranian f 16 using a r 37 a2a missile.....they r claiming it to be the longest kill ever...which was beyond 200 km......
Our f 16 are outdated when it comes to radar n avionics when compared to the rafale....so putting them on top cover could be dangerous.
But having said that a awacs guided launch could be way around.....but in the heat of the moment it's easier said then done.
Plus the Americans would not be too thrilled if an f16 is shot down..
As part of LM sales pitch since opp swift retort has been the shooting down of a su 30 by a PAF f 16

Don't get excited. I'm not an "armchair expert", I'm just an ordinary military enthusiast.

1. In China's military philosophy, "propaganda work" is one of the important components of war. It is not a derogatory term. The CCP was able to win the KMT-CCP Civil War, and excellent "propaganda work" was one of its core factors.

2. For Chinese military fans, seeing the JF-17B3 adopt the "4+2" air-to-air missile mount is both happy and "jealous". After all, the PLAAF's J-10C usually adopts the "2+2" air-to-air missile mount. Our mood is very complicated. ------Other people's light fighters all use the "4+2" scheme, and you, a medium fighter, only use the "2+2" scheme?

Can you understand this feeling?
PLAAF and PAF have different doctrines and different adversaries

PAF is outnumbered, PLAAF is not

Any link? Was it today?

No it wasn't today. And its ambiguous if it was an S400 or kill by Su35 through a R-37
Initially all European news agencies were quoting a s400 kill.
But the russian sources clarified that it was a r 37 kill n that too it was the longest bvr kill to date surpassing the earlier kill at around 215km.

What if a Rafale using geographical masking suddenly comes out, and fires meteor with passive mode - what will sluggish thunder - loaded with 6 missiles, three fuel tanks - will do?

this is exactly what AEWCS is designed to prevent...

Also, on CAP's, the JF-17 will likely be higher up, thus have a better picture of low flying AC. 1745691789403.png

Thats not possible with round the clock monitoring of indian air space by our awacs fleet....
But then again wt we saw in 2019 was the usage of large no. Of ac in each strike package from both sides.
So in a senerio such as the above any thing is possible.
But at the moment pl 15 out ranges the meteors by a almost twice the distance....
So the theory says that if employed intelligently PAF should wipe the floor with iaf.

I read a RUSI article on Pl-15
It clearly mentions that beyond 100km envelop , meteor has distinct edge over PL15 due to ramjet propulsion
