That's true. It's actually true for most countries including Pakistan & India. People look at Israel's AD and imagine if their country can do the same, without realizing that Israel has a very tiny airspace and it has a very dense and extremely expensive air defense systems. Still its not impregnable.

I never said its not....but its rather more effective n deadly when operated in a system, which consists of layers.....n fighter ac is a huge component of that system...it all needs to be tied up in a tightly nit system which need to work n looked in totality.....n that too gives u no guarantees of a fool proof sys as dark spots exists no matter how dense/complex ur sys is.

Now to expect ur AD to work in singularity while missing key components is wishful thinking at best.

Iran couldn't build its airforce. It could be due to Mullah's decisions initially but Iran did a very wise move by investing in its Ballistic missiles & drone program. These are the assets which are in mobile launchers and everywhere in Iran and under tunnels and caves. They are far easier to conceal and can be readied to attack quickly. The airbases on other hand are very difficult to conceal, as they are open and requires long runways.

BMs / CMs are more effective against Israel than combat jets as far as attack is concerned. There was never a chance that Iranian airforce fighter jets (even if they had exactly same inventory as PAF) to attack Israel. The F-35s / F-15s / Vipers along with Israeli AD would have downed most iranian jets in any confrontation. Today Iran can attack Israel with ZERO causality of its own. Iran specifically invested in those arsenal which can be safe-guarded / concealed and can also be used against its enemy (Israel) effectively. In that regard it makes sense. There could also be concerned that if Iran spend billions on fighter jets, those can still be destroyed on the ground by surprise large scale BM/CM attack.

Plus building a modern airforce requires billions of dollars and countries which can offer it. I think Iran got the supplier country (Russia) only recently because Russia is already under sanctions so it does not matter now for Russia.

I think focusing more on BMs / CMs than its airforce was also due to the large distance between Israel & Iran. If Iran would have been in comfortable range of Israeli airforce then it was necessary for Iran to also focus on its own airforce. Iran realized its not the case and it needed weapons to reach Israel, so it put its entire focus on Missiles.

Anyways, airforce still is very important despite the large distance from hostile country. It provides most credible defense against enemy combat jets. There is no doubt in it.

Kindly note my all of above talk is focused on Iran Vs Israel. If you put US in the scenario then everything changes. Imagine US B-2 bomber or F-35s from carriers coming your way. Then only thing which can provide resistance for sometime is your own Air force. However, I am not very optimistic about Iranian air force supposedly units (Sukhois, JF-17s, J-10Cs --- can't imagine any western aircrafts for Iran) against 5th gen stealth fighters.

Iran's key investments since the revolution has been in proxies around it. That according to Iran's defensive posture has been Iran's safety policy ie holding a knife to all its neighbors near n far....banking on them not responding.
Thats the basket where iran put most of its eggs.

Iran as things right now has very outdated equipment to defend its homeland n r at total mercy of isreal/us.
Bm/cm r offensive weapons that can't help to defend the homeland.

Totally agree with you in that an effective defense consists of both aicraft and SAM systems working in collaboration. All of the recent wars have shown and provide that it is difficult for an IADS to survive or be fully effective if it does not have a fighter jet component to go with it.

The mullahs r in a predicament right now

My experience tells me that mullahs tend to be slow to learn and very rarely the wiset in any room. Iran has a problem for sure for now. If they surive this mistake, then they may have a chance to correct their mistake. If they survive, of course.

Totally agree with you in that an effective defense consists of both aicraft and SAM systems working in collaboration. All of the recent wars have shown and provide that it is difficult for an IADS to survive or be fully effective if it does not have a fighter jet component to go with it.

The prob with iran right now is that its AD network is proving very limited coverage to the iranian land mass.
When ever isreal decides to attack, they would choose the shortest route ie over Syria, iraq n attack iran....
N theirs nothing Syria n Iraq can do about it....this even if Russia tries to step in as it has limited presence in Syria which simply consists of a AFB n port in litakya.

UN saved Egypt and Syria’s ass.Egypt got 70-80% of their surrounded by Israeli troops and most of their equipment was destroyed by the time the U.N and the U.S pressured Israel to accept a ceasefire with Egypt to prevent the total destruction of Egypt. Also Syria surrendered a few days earlier to Israel when Israeli troops started to approach Damascus.

I think Im done with these one sided biased sources in your arguments instead of seeing the entire picture - Israel has fought brilliantly for its size but it was helped by a variety of factors.

Egypt's military had reached its primary target---but then Sadaat got arrogant at seeing the success---.

Hello,There,I wonder if there is any realistic information about JF17 with BVR missiles mounted on the wingtips, I have been researching this for a long time and still lack some conclusive evidence.... I first saw a guy on defense.pk saying that one of his JF pilot friends said JF17 has the ability to mount BVR missiles on wing-tip hardpoint, and I also found a CG image that I can't determine the authenticity of which also indicates that JF17 has the ability to mount SD10 on wing-tip, One of the more important clues I have now is that JF17 can mount a different pylon on the wing tips. This is confirmed by a photo of JF17 mounted wing tip smoke pod at Pakistan's National Day Parade. Obviously it is not the pylon JF17 commonly uses to mount PL5, it is shorter. And sharper at the top. But I'm still not sure if the BVR missile SD10 will work on the pylon, as I haven't been able to find a single real-life image of this at..... Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot!!!

I doubt they weigh 180 kg each like a Sd-10 BVR.

Even if it was theoretically possible to carry them on wingtips, it would be pushing the absolute limits for a light fighter. An unnecessary risk to structural integrity imo.
