JF-17 - Updates, News & Discussion

wondering if they really needed all 3 fuel tanks if all they were to do is a flypast. Perhaps they either flew directly from a far away base or its more work to attach and detach fuel tanks and they stay in this configuration to stay alert and available ...

The engine of a fighter jet, in addition to providing propulsive power for the fighter jet, has a portion of its energy converted into electrical energy to power all of the fighter jet's avionics.

Early fighter jets had a low demand for electrical energy, so the engines were designed to convert a low amount of electrical power. Today's 4th Gen, 4.5th Gen, and 5th Gen fighters have an increasing need for electrical energy.
At the same time, the fuel conversion efficiencies of turbofan engines from different eras vary widely.
Due to completely different tactical thinking, the power generation capacity of Russian engines is generally lower than that of US engines.

If the electrical load is too heavy and the engine is in high power delivery mode for a long time, the fuel consumption is bound to increase.

For example:
F-119 (F-22) power generation power of 150~200KW, F-135 (F-35) power generation power of 260~300KW. RD-93MA power generation power is only 80~120KW. WS-10B's data can not be found, it is presumed that it is about 100~150KW.(The data is from the Internet, may not be accurate.)

Both JF-17B3 and J-10C use advanced 4.5th Gen fighter avionics. However, they are both fighters using the previous generation single engine.
So, for the most part, we see photos of them with secondary fuel tanks.

This is a phenomenon we see in many “advanced” fighters with older engines.

PLAAF's J-10C is primarily targeted for area air defense and routine patrols. We usually see it mounted as:
2x PL-10
2x/4x PL-15 (sometimes carrying rocket nests)
3x fuel tanks

what's the high serial number we have seen with the Block 3?

its been 2 years since I seen 22-318 in Dubai

and 22-320

anyone got any news

I'm not sure any new block 3 have been added to Pakistans inventory, all existing new builds are being produced for Azerbaijan, after that it will depend on Pakistans need and new export orders

So we think that maybe 30 x JF-17 Block 3 have been built and they stopped and switch over to the export orders ?

would like to see a Camera crew inside PAC with a journalist like we did a few years ago get glimpse of what is going on inside
