Its a question of relationships and fighting with camps within pentagon and so on.

The first F-16s Pakistan got had equipment even USAF ones did not have.But then PAF had to fighter over DRFM for the Block-52s.
There are pro-India anti-china extremes in Pentagon as there are moderate pro-Pakistan relationship ones who know how close Pakistan does access control.

Block-52 access to this day is controlled by LM liason.

@Oscar , those were different times. Pakistan only had M2K as alternate for a tip of the spear strike aircraft.

Today PAF has China.....Americans need to realize this that giving BLK70s or V Kits doesn't upset the balance as much as original F-16s A/B did back in 1980s...........but pissing off and cutting off Pakistan completely means you just lost one really deep and powerful strategic partner in an otherwise extremely messed up part of the world.......

Indonesia might need an aircraft with a larger combat radius...

Indonesia was seriously interested in getting French Rafale planes. But after the 6/7 May episode, Indonesia got equally serious reservations about going ahead with that potential acquisition. On top of that Indians attempted to blame the French for their humiliating debacle by claiming that French didn't provide Indians with the source code and also sent inferior Rafales to India acted as fuel on the fire for those reservations.

Acquiring JF-17C makes perfect sense for Indonesia. It offers much longer sticks than what Rafale can do. Its radar is much more powerful than Rafale's. But most importantly, given the close and historic brotherly relations between Pakistan and Indonesia, it will be much easier for Indonesians to make future upgradations (for example, integrating new weapon systems) specific to Indonesian requirements. The diversity in integrated weapons currently available with JF-17C is already an advantage that Thunder enjoys.

Another crucial aspect would be the possibility for Indonesia to acquire Chinese J-10C planes in future to gradually come-up with a very deadly hi-lo combination like what Pakistan has used in May episode. The commonality of many sub-systems and weapons across the two planes make the realization of such high-low mix very feasible.
