Previous experience is one thing, but again, a new vessel can have any type of propulsion which benefits speed, efficiency and acoustics. Problem is, if it is Chinese marine diesel engine, they aren't the best ones out there....even the big names like MAN/B&W have been making marine diesels for a century, yet their engines too fail at times......Gas Turbines have gotten a lot better in past two decades, especially the smaller aeroderivative ones which are typically used in marine propulsion.

again, we can merely speculate with limited information.......CODAD and CODAG and a half dozen other combos would also work. Let's see if we can have a technical reason why designers chose this over CODAD.
 
Babur-class was configured as CODAG as well, but that was to be expected because it's a modified MILGEM (source: ASFAT).

However, KSEW's older Jinnah-class frigate info sheets had CODAD, until now.

Yea i remember back in the day that USA approved the LM2500 sale for powering Babur Class.......reliable machine in both Marine uses and power generation.
 
Babur have LM gas turbines along with the usual diesel power plant.

Na, that is not the role of 054B. These ships are more subordinate ships in a Carrier Group. It has minor capability enhancement to 054A - it still have the same 32 VLS as 054A. Whereas Type 52D has 112 VLS which is massive !! 4 x Type 052 will make PN the most formodible Navy in the entire region.

In comparison, the Type 055s are equipped with 112 VLS cells, 64 forward and 48 aft.
The PLA Navy's current main VLS systems are divided into two types. There are significant differences between them. Do not judge a warship's combat capability solely based on the number of VLS systems it has.

Caliber: 850 mm
Concentric Canister Launch VLS.
Mainly equipped on warships: Type 055/052D
Different depth versions: 9M, 7M, 3.3M

H/AKJ-16
Caliber: 650 mm
Hot launch VLS.
Mainly equipped on warships: Type 054A/B

Thanks - got info from a freaking AI search. Anyways, 64 VLS is still massive. And the point still remains that 054B provide minor capability upgrade vs a 054A. Hence 052D are required.

I’m wondering what made you conclude that. Did you read my post?

I simply corrected the poster’s statement where he mistakenly referred to the 052 as having 112 VLS.

This is a misunderstanding.

Many friends always like to use the number of VLS to measure the combat effectiveness of warships. I am just borrowing your comment to illustrate this point.
