BANNU: Four members of a local peace committee were shot dead by unidentified attackers in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday, according to police.

The victims were reportedly on their way back from a jirga in the Gulbadeen Lundai area when the attack occurred. Police later transported the bodies to the district headquarters hospital to complete medico-legal procedures.

Police said that a search operation has been initiated in the area to apprehend the attackers and ensure the safety of local residents.

The incident occurred amid a fresh wave of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as a day earlier, at least seven cops were martyred when an improvised explosive device (IED) hit their armoured vehicle on Gomal Bazaar road in the province's Tank district.

The incident occurred amid a fresh wave of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as a day earlier, at least seven cops were martyred when an improvised explosive device (IED) hit their armoured vehicle on Gomal Bazaar road in the province's Tank district.

The martyred police personnel were identified as SHO of Gomal Bazaar Police Station, Ishaq Ahmed Khan, Additional SHO Sher Aslam, driver Abdul Majeed, and Elite Force personnel Arshad Ali, Shaukat Ali, Hazrat Ali, and Ehsanullah. The identity of the deceased passerby could not be ascertained.

In a similar incident of violence against peace committee members, seven of them were shot dead by terrorists in Bannu's Hoveed area on November 21 last year.

Pakistan has experienced a rise in cross-border terrorist incidents since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan in 2021. The provinces of KP and Balochistan, which border Afghanistan, have been particularly affected by these attacks.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, in his presser on January 6, said that law enforcement agencies carried out 75,175 IBOs across the country in 2025.

Giving a breakdown, he said 14,658 IBOs were conducted in KP, 58,778 in Balochistan, while 1,739 operations took place in the rest of the country.

Lt Gen Chaudhry said that 5,397 terrorism incidents were reported nationwide during the last year. Of these, 3,811 incidents, he said, occurred in KP, 1,557 in Balochistan, and 29 incidents were reported in other parts of the country.

He said that 2,597 terrorists were killed during counterterror operations last year. While providing details of 10 major terror attacks across the country, he said that civilians and soft targets had been deliberately targeted, and Afghan militants were involved in all attacks.

Armed assailants killed four members of a peace committee in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district on Tuesday, confirmed police.

The incident took place in the Gulbadin Landi Dak area of Bannu district. According to a senior official of the district police, the victims were all travelling in the same vehicle when armed men opened “indiscriminate fire” on them.

Of the four victims, two were identified as a father and son. They all died on the spot, the official added.

Local sources said that the peace committee in the area has taken up arms in self-defense to resist militants, leading to an extremely tense situation in the area.

The police official further said that an investigation into the attack has been initiated, but added that it was too early to declare it an act of terrorism.

Attacks on peace committee members in KP have been on the rise in recent months. In November 2025, seven people were killed when a peace committee office was attacked in Bannu.

Meanwhile, in October, a member of a tribal peace committee was killed in a clash with terrorists in the Ahmadzai area of Bannu district.

When people say, let the local police or people deal with the TTP

This is the problem, either they are out gunned by heavily armed afghani idiots or they break down and make peace deals which amount to the TTP not killing them but getting free passage to do whatever as long as they target the rest of the state

It's why it's essential the army takes over and does the operations and IBOs and this time no handing back to locals,

The police and local adminin need to be empowered and their needs to be heavily armed fast response units to respond to any threat or attack

‼️North Waziristan, Shewa
14 January 2026

The Kharijite rebels blew up an important connecting bridge located on the Kurram River in the Shewa tehsil of North Waziristan by planting explosives.

The destruction of the bridge will further increase difficulties for the public - the series of tormenting the public by the Kharijite rebels continues.

The Kharijites carried out this operation last night, as a result of which the land connection to the areas around and near the bridge has been completely severed.

This explosion is a continuation of an organized destructive strategy, whose aim is to paralyze public movement.

This bridge was not merely a route for the local population but a fundamental means of access to economic activities, educational access, and medical facilities.

After the incident, a wave of intense grief and anger against the Kharijites swept through the local residents.

The local population, while strongly condemning this cowardly act, described it as an open attack on the region's peace, development, and public facilities.

All roads, mosques, and schools have been built for the convenience and welfare of the public, and attacks on them are tantamount to targeting the basic rights of the people.

This attack has once again made it clear that extremist elements are engaged in efforts to create instability by targeting public welfare projects.

Insha'Allah, the security forces' operations against the Kharijite rebels will continue until the elimination of the last Kharijite.

  • Operations were conducted in Bannu and Kurram districts

January 15, 2026

Thirteen terrorists affiliated with the Indian-sponsored group Fitna Al Khwarij were killed in separate intelligence-based operations carried out by Pakistan’s security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 13 and 14 January, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Thursday.

According to the military’s media wing, security forces conducted a targeted operation in the Bannu district following intelligence reports of terrorists’ presence. In the ensuing gunfight, eight terrorists were neutralised.

Another operation in the Kurram district led to a further five terrorists being killed after an intense exchange of fire.

The ISPR added that sanitisation operations are ongoing to eliminate any remaining foreign-backed terrorists in the region.

These actions form part of Pakistan’s sustained counter-terrorism campaign, “Azm-e-Istehkam,” approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, aimed at eliminating foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.

Security forces and law enforcement agencies remain committed to continuing operations at full pace to ensure the menace of cross-border terrorism is completely eradicated.

PESHAWAR: Bannu Cantonment once again came under a rocket attack after a projectile hit an under-construction house in the Defence Colony area on Friday.

The rocket was fired from an unknown direction, resulting in a several-feet-deep crater and the collapse of the house’s ceiling.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Earlier, on the night of December 31, 2025, Bannu Cantonment was also targeted in a rocket attack when a rocket landed in vacant houses near the CMH. While no loss of life occurred in that incident, property damage was reported.

According to initial information, the same type of rocket was used in both attacks, which militants have named the “Al-Farooq 2”. Following the December 31 attack, the model of the fired rocket was also widely circulated on social media.

Security agencies have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident, while evidence is being collected from the site to determine the motives behind the attack and identify those responsible.

In another incident, militants launched an attack on the Fateh Khel police check post in Bannu.

According to Bannu Police spokesman Asif Hassan, an intense exchange of fire continued for quite some time.

The police successfully repulsed the attack, forcing the attackers to flee. However, a search operation is currently underway in the area.

There is nothing surprising about it. These people have no religion or faith.

They have been caught from Lal Masjid in burqas all the way to Afghanistan.

They have turned homes and mosques into shields everywhere.

They have even been caught smuggling drugs inside ihram and Qurans.

The one who supplied drugs to the Umrah pilgrims from Faisalabad was also one of them.
